im just saying its a really nice streaming and browsing interface
Varies from device to device though. My Blu-Ray player's interface sucks for Netflix. My TV's though is awesome. I haven't checked X-box's interface yet.

SemperFly 03-03-2012 11:49 AM

xbox's netflix interface is pretty good, my blu ray player's is roughly the same.

the problem with netflix is the lack of some of the most popular titles. I don't care about dvds, I wouldn't mind if they got rid of it altogether because getting shit in the mail is so 20th century.

but if I want to watch jurassic park I have to pirate that shit

Yeah, that was the detriment I meant. If you don't want Starz movies, you're screwed for streaming basically.
hey pdog, have you noticed the "faces of atheism" trend on reddit?
People are leaving netflix in droves because of how they've changed their business.

There are some real nice things to Netflix, but some detriments as well (as in it's hard to find some movies for streaming)
what did they change
what did they change
Monthly fees increased 76%. They also were going to split up their DVD and streaming into two separate entities. But people left at the mention of that so much that they stopped that from going through.

TUT RAGE!!! 03-03-2012 11:57 AM

I really fucked up 8 years ago, i hate my self.
Monthly fees increased 76%. .
Woah, whats 76% + 9 bucks?!
I mean 9 bucks a month was pretty fuckin pimp but. lol?

SemperFly 03-03-2012 11:57 AM

the thing I like about netflix is that it's a sign we're in the future. in the early 90s when those of us that "tested well" were put into what would later become classes typical to magnet schools, we got our official introduction to the Information Superhighway and one of the most unbelievable was the video on demand idea, that one day I'd be able to just order up any movie that was ever made on my tv and watch it whenever I wanted without leaving home

I was annoyed for the longest time that it hadn't happened until I realized browsing my dvr that all that stuff is not only available on netflix but right on my cable box. It's just that the implementation is mediocre.

and then of course video phones = skype but I refuse to join in on that. I don't want clients to know I'm picking my nose while detailing the week's progress

TUT RAGE!!! 03-03-2012 11:57 AM

really

8 bucks a month for unlimited streaming is a damn steal. even without the more popular movies, I can watch years worth of tv shows that I loved for the price of going to one movie in the month.

2002: $19.95 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs
2004: $21.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs
2004: $17.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs
2007: $16.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs + 17 hours of downloaded movies
2010: $19.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs + unlimited streaming
2011: $15.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs / $23.99 -- 3-at-a-time DVDs + unlimited streaming

the price increase was a good thing, they need to be able to pay for streaming rights to other properties, but people flipped their fucking biscuits as if 76% on top of 6 bucks was a significant amount. netflix didn't owe anyone an apology, people just felt entitled and whined.

Kahnza 03-03-2012 12:05 PM

I would gladly pay more than $8/month for a better selection of mainstream movies.

Yep. Keep in mind, I wasn't one of the ones complaining. Hell I'm still a Netflix customer. But there were plenty even on [M] that threw a shitfest about the rate increase.

I'd be willing to pay $20 if they could get fully unlimited movies. And that would be for just streaming.
