Not DX11?

I never said he wasn't going to game, I meant currently. This way he is set for the future if something comes out, ie DX11, and wants to game more regularly. Sure his is fine for now. I was just suggesting a system within the realms of his $900 budget.

Didn't know i5 boards had gotten that cheap. Is it lacking any features, can it run crossfire video cards, raid, ect?

Sadly no, I live in Canada

Post it when you get it together, happy to give more feedback. Ive built almost a dozen PhII systems for customers and friends in the last few months, so I pretty much know the hardware for them inside and out

Shit. My bad. I typo'd on my first post. I meant 5770. Apologies for confusion

Otherwise it wouldn't be wise to switch from a 8800gt.

Get a 5770 to make your build future-proof-ish.

I just picked the cheapest Gigabyte board, it has raid but no crossfire. You can get Socket 1156 boards with crossfire and raid starting at $100.

Anyone serious about a multi-gpu setup would not be looking at AMD nor i5 to begin with anyways..

Do you need a P7P55D Deluxe? You can get a P7P55D Pro and save $75 dollars.

Motherboard looks expensive. Don't know which one to suggest but make sure that board has features that you will use, otherwise spend less on a mb.

You selected 3 channel ram, you only need 2 channel ram.

Kingston has a model coming out soon that will be $85 after a $30 MIR (don't know if the rebate applies to Canada)

I also think that you should not get a videocard right now unless it is a smoking hot deal. Your 8800GT is still a good card. Nvidia doesn't have their new cards out yet so AMD is getting top dollar. Old cards are being phased out so they are not the deals that they could potentially be.

Here is one example of memory that you could use (just picked the same Corsair XMS3):

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820145260

$92.49 with an additional $15 MIR

If you are not going to be overclocking, maybe you should consider getting some low latency ram. About the same prices as the rest, will perform slightly better at stock vs. high latency ram. You can still overclock with either type if you choose to do so later on.

Heres a quick list of what I just built my good friends world of warcraft box with. I leave video card and hdd up to you, but fyi I used 2 WD 640 Black Editions in raid 0 (~160 for both) and an HD4770 for video (100). We also used 4 sticks of ram instead of 2. My box is the same except it uses 8gb gskil ddr2 instead, an AM2+ mobo, and only 1 640 black edition.

250 for the i5 mobo in the image above, OUCH! I love you guys but I would never spend that much on a mobo lol. Saving 130 bucks on the mobo (not even counting the 35-45 saved on cpu) compared to the one I linked would let you get a much better gpu setup, dual 4890's or dual midrange 5xxx's for example, or the fastest 5k series. Games would be much faster than the i5 setup with that video card... probably even with a cheap ass overclocked X3 720 or a ddr2 setup Of course everything else would still be slower. Just making an observation. Of course the same is likely true for a cheaper i5 mobo, so if gaming is a priority I would still suggest cheaper mobo + better video card.

cheaper motherboard for sure

Two notes. The difference between the Intel and the 955BE is $15 but it really should be compared to the 965BE in which case the Intel is cheaper by $49

Second, suggesting a better videocard than the GTX260 is silly

why buy a GTX260 when you can get an ATI 5770... or a 5870 if you have the money?

I recommended that he stick with his current card. Still a good card, its paid for and why get a new card now for a person who claims that they won't be doing a lot of gaming.

At least wait till the prices drop on the newer cards.
He didn't say anything about money being no object and appears that he wants to stick to a fairly strict budget
