Big present for a small car

Look what the UPS man dropped off today for my Miata:

I worked on the car for about 4 hours today and got through simply REMOVING everything that needs to be removed to bolt this thing in. So tomorrow I have to more or less undo everything I did today.

 lol gayata gtfo fag

200 from a 1.8 with a sc sounds pretty damn decent actually, good luck man. imho them miatas should have been factory boosted from day 1 as an option, so we all could have tons of OEM pieces to work with.

What kit did you get?

...200whp is really optimistic, you're going to need a lot of tuning and an air/air intercooler. Same torque? That wont happen either.
I have seen a lot of supercharger dyno plots for these cars and they arent all that impressive. Home made turbo kits provide better results.

Check here for build info, and dyno sheets.

Its an unnecessary expense that only further supports the truth that its a wiser decision to get a turbo. Especially if the turbo vs supercharger torque curves dont prove to you its not worthwhile, not to mention the endless "I popped my motor threads".

Not to mention when you add an AA IC to a supercharger setup on the miata, idle droop becomes a major problem.

I'm not trying to dissuade him, I'm just presenting the facts. I did a lot of research before I turbocharged my car, and all signs pointed to a supercharger being a huge headache if the goals were more power.

If one is satisfied with 160 - 180hp reliably without having to worry about knock, or popping their engine and being able to install it in a weekend, its a great way to go. But if you want 200+, its not the solution, just a problem.

You're right, the torque is about 160-165. However, I don't think 200whp is very optimistic from what I've seen around the forums.

It's the Fast Forward kit - it's well known and well respected. The guys who build the kits are the nicest and most knowledgeable people ever. They gave me their personal cell phone numbers in case I had any issues/questions during the install and they've been bending over backwards answering all my dumb questions already.

You are correct, an ebay turbo and some PVC piping, would probably make more power, however I'm more interested in reliability, throttle response and ease of maintenance. This kit delivers full torque immediately at pretty much any RPM above 1500.
Not the least of what pushed me to this kit is the impeccable customer support provided by Fast Forward.

Last but not least, this kit is CARB approved. This alone is a big deal for me

A "lot of tuning" really isn't that much tuning as the kit immediately puts down 190whp with the base tune that comes with it. An intercooler is not really needed since this kit adds the controversial 5th injector (so called E-Cool) that seems to keep air temperatures in check. Since there are folks running well over 250whp without an intercooler with this kit, and I plan on staying around 200, I'm really not worried about this particular point.

Given that the Fast Forward guys have stated my kit is one of the first ones with a new manifold design that bumps the power up about 10hp, I would say if I play my cards right 200whp should be within reach.

Here's a sample dyno:

Lurker, this isn't really a thread about the merits of supercharging vs turbocharging.
If I had wanted to build a pain-in-the-ass, blow-up-any-minute, 300whp monster, I would have.
While I appreciate your rehashing of 10 years of miataforum arguments, it really isn't necessary here.

People run a turbo on a stock tune and no intercooler?

what kind of niggers do you have on those miata forums
