Travel Shows
Anybody else live vicariously through the TV?
My GF and I watch two travel shows quite religiously. Departures, about a pair of Canadian guys (and a 3rd cameraman) that are in their mid-20's. They originally dropped everything for a year, traveled and filmed it all, but now they are onto their third year because the show was such a hit. They are very down to earth and the filming is usually quite spectacular. The other one is called Word Travels. It's about a pair of travel writers, and their escapades. I don't like it as much as Departures, but the girl is cute, so I still watch it . They spend a lot of time finding unique things to do at their destinations, and there is a bit of a sub-theme of the stories they write while travelling.Anywho, I highly recommend both shows, but I'm not sure if they are broadcas outside of Canada. Any other good travel shows out there?

Sounds exactly like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madventures , wouldn't be suprised if these Canadians caught the show. Madventures is... or rather was... an awesome show. I don't know if you can get the first two seasons subbed in english, but they are so much better than the third season. The first season is just pure gonzo low-budget travelling with lots of lulz and helpful information, in the second they get a little political - which can be annoying. In the third one they just go over the top to do all kinds of "extreme shit", it seems contrived. While the first two were made on their own budget, sold all their shit and filmed them with hopes of selling them to a TV company later. The third season has a heftier budget and they filmed it in english since it was picked up by Discovery and some other channels... I couldn't get through more than a few episodes of season 3. It was a huge hit, but I'm not sure it translates to foreign audiences. Also, Anthony Bourdain is great.

I like travel shows too (because I myself am unable to travel
) but one of my favorite travels shows, though a bit unorthodox, was Insomniac with Dave Attell. :] |

i watch travel channel a lot. my favorite are Bourdain, Andrew Zimmerns Bizarre world/food, and Man vs Food
theres lots of other shows like food paradise, cruise shows, houses and boats, random extreme stuff, etc. they are usually pretty entertaining to watch even if its just because nothing is on or something. travel channel is a pretty decent time killer, especially during the day. |

yes, its like Dinner Drive Ins and Dives. but instead of fatty food as the focus. Art Mann Presents focus whats important in life, drunken debauchery. i think id like to start an RV tour of all the locations they air between the two shows. Debauchery, Drive Ins and Drunks round america would be the name of it. |
