his healthcare was charity provided from the private sector, he didn't advocate that the Romans start treating everyone. With government services, nothing is ever free as government can only redistribute resources, not create them, so you can't call it free.

The mandate is financial reality for having preexisting conditions covered and people not being dropped.

without it people could just wait until they get sick and then get insurance. at least now, even if they don't get insurance, they are paying a penalty into the system.

it's either this or universal government single payer if you want full coverage...

The mandate for insurance should only be for those high risk, fuck your wallet sideways, type conditions. For "routine maintenance", insurance does more to drive up the costs of everyday check-ups, (strep)throat cultures, and other normal procedures.

Might work to stop the increase of costs for awhile, but without doing something to address consumption we're not going to see actual decreases.
