Getting windows XP to show the old style shutdown menu?

When I do a remote log in and try to shut down the computer, the screen freezes up and I can't see what I'm doing. I'd like to get the old style of a drop down menu like everything before windows XP had (restart, shutdown, log off, hibernate, standby).

Turn off fast user switching and disable welcome screen in control panel -> User accounts

one more question. When I go to shutdown, the entire screen becomes black and white. How do I turn that off? This seems to really freeze up my screen when I am remotely logged into another machine that isn't very powerful
