I personally think that the background theme in the KC should be spirit-crushing and psychologically destructive on the same scale as torture by the thought police in 1984.

Here's some ideas I thought up of (besides Barney's theme):

REM: Shiny Happy People
Christina Aguilera: Beautiful
Crazytown: Butterfly
Starship: We Built This City
Wang Chung: Everybody Have Fun Tonight
The Locust: Live from the Russian Compound (The Locust is an awesome band, but their songs could theoretically be effictively used for torture)
Journey: Don't Stop Believein'
Don Johnson: Heartbeat
