Whatsisname takes pics in Minneapolis (33 pics 6.8MB 56k = go swim across the river)

Greetings. Today was very nice out and I decided to do some rollerblading, and figured why not take some pictures. The pictures I took were in Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota. If any of you fagatrons are coming to the Minnesota meet but have never been to Minneapolis, check these out, it's a great city.
This is probably my first thread in GM that I haven't intentionally made shitty, so hopefully you all enjoy it.
Captions follow each picture.

This is a southwest view from the 3rd floor balcony of the Frat house I live in. This is where I started.

This is a northwest view of the same house. Peeking through the tree is a sorority house across the street.

This is facing northeast looking up 4th street.

The place I decided to go to was through some of the riverside parks. It turns out, there was some craft fair. Whenever theres a craft fair, you know what you get: old ladies and fat chicks!

Here is a view facing the skyline from on the Stone Arch Bridge. This bridge used to be an old rail line, but now it is for pedestrians only. It is quite impressive, there might be a pic later on that shows how 'heavy' this thing is. (edit: no i didn't )

This is a view facing back, you can see a few other rollerblades, on the right is the University Steam Plant that heats all the buildings on campus.

Heres a view looking downriver. You can seethe steam plant on the left. The small building second on the right way in the distance is the Moos Health Sciences Tower, on campus. Its about a mile away from where I took this picture.

This picture is looking across the river at some old Mills. More information on mills will come in a few more pictures.

This overexposed shot shows the place where only natural falls on the entire Mississippi used to be. A few years ago they were torn up and replaced with a concrete damn thing.

Another skyline shot from on the Bridge.

In this picture the turbulent wash from the falls is visible. The Building centered is the University St. Anthony Falls laboratory. They do river research and whatnot and have a bunch of massive holding tanks. I tried to get a job there once but got pwned.

Here is the locks for the river, otherwise not too exciting.

What you see in this picture are some mill ruins. 100 years ago Minneapolis' economy used to be centered around grain processing, and Minneapolis was home to many of the largest and most powerful grain milling machines in the world. In picture 8, the building with the Pilsbury sign, used to exist the largest direct drive water powered mill ever built. However, since electricity became commone, water power fell out of favor. As the waterpowered mills became obsolete, their large tunnel networks became tunnels into the past. Many urban explorers () check these out from time to time. Whats visible in the picture are the ruins from an old mill that are now part of the Mill City Museum and Park. I've gone into that tunnel down there in the center of the shot.

Here is a picture of the Mill City Musuem, a very modern building encased in a collapsing 1860's factory.

This picture is from a theatre under construction. I don't know what the hell that thing is supposed to be, but it juts out about 750 feet from the side of the building, and the end of the triangular thing left of the tree is actually over the river. Maybe when that thing is complete I'll take another picture. Minneapolis has the 2nd per capita amount of theater seats in the nation, topped only by New York City.

This picture I just took to try and show how much distance I will cover. The suspension bridge way in the background is where I am headed.

This picture is taken showing the park that essentially takes up the riverbed a few miles in each direction, including to St. Paul, on both banks of the river. It has a bike path as well as a walking path, and plenty of trees that provide nice shade during sunny days.

I don't know why I'm including this picture.

Heres a view on the walking path looking down through the trees and shrubs and whatnot.

Here I took this picture because I was debating which way to go up, the sloped ramp on the left or the stairs on the right. Since I was on rollerblades I decided to take the ramp. The building in the background is the Federal Reserve Bank of Minnesota.

Heres some weird sculpture stuff thats along the bike path pictured a couple shots ago.

More weird sculpture. Nearby there was a cool fountian but I didn't take a pic because some stupid family was letting their kids play in it It's not a goddamn swimming pool

In this picture you can see nicolet island. There are some sweet tunnels over there for you urban explorers, a few I've checked out. In the center, barely visible is a coal door that we've checked out but it's welded shut.

This is the same as the last picture only zoomed in so I can show off my camera's awesome 10x optical zoom

I've now gone up the sloped ramp and am standing on the Hennepin Avenue bridge. Here you can see the pilsbury building (1st on the right to the 3 smokestackes) and Moos tower far off in the distance.

Heres a shot looking down the bridge. The apartment building in the center was built to mimic a waterfall or something, its kinda weird.

Here I am on Hennepin Avenue coming into downtown.

There was some kind of concert shindig going on for some reason, I don't know who was playing, they were just closing up when I arrived.

This picture I thought turned out pretty well, this was taken at the something or other Cancer Survivors Park.

Heres some weird sculpture from the park.

Heres a view of the concert area. Looks like they setup skateboarding ramps for some angsty kids to bust their faces on

I didn't really feel like going all the way downtown so I decided to leave. Here I took a shot of with the Hennepin avenue bridge on the left.

And here I am back at the Stone Arch Bridge again ready to cross and head home.
