So, I *love* my M5, but two other things are tempting me. Bigtime.
One, a S52-powered M Coupe. I've never driven one, but imaigne it has to be somewhat like an E36 M3, which I like a lot. Probably even more visceral and tossable. I did sit in one and love the driving position. Not at all practical. Don't have a particular one in mind. Or, a 1990 Alpina B11 3.5. Even more rare and cool than my M5, but slower and probably heavier. Manual transmission, 70,000km. Can have collector plates, so insurance is dirt-cheap. Opinions?

The Alpina is sweet but HUGE... the flying shoe (M Coupe) is a fun car to drive apparently. IMHO I would save and hunt down an E39 M5... my favorite BMW evar

I'd keep the M5. It's coolness factor is near that of the other two. It's faster than the other two. It's more versatile.
It's an M fucking 5 !!!

I'm a huge E34 fan, so I'd say keep the ///M.
The M coupe isn't going to drive much like the E36 for two reasons. One, the rear suspension is based off of the E30. It can be a bear to handle at times. Also, the wheelbase is much shorter making it much more prone to snap oversteer. |

Interesting stuff, guys.
I am a huge E34 nut, but I have driven an E32 750iL and 740iL and I really like it too... That is the B11. I bought my M5 from the same guy in February. The things that draw me to the B11 vs the M5 are IT'S AN ALPINA, it has 70,000km (I just ticked over to 120,000km) and it's almost exactly the same price as my M5. As for the M Coupe, it's a pipe dream, I simply couldn't afford the savage depreciation... but every time I drive a small car like that I do have a ball. edit: what I ultimately think I want is a B10 Biturbo, but that's quite a bit more $$$... edit2: drove an E39 M5, and though I could afford it, I don't like it. It's too perfect! Plus it's an awful lot of money to have tied up in something that is going to depreciate like a fucking rock in the next few years, while I'm of the bizarre mind that these older ones are going to stay put/go up in the short term.

i love mcoupe's. my "mechanic" guy has one, an AA supercharger system, and a whole lot more...pushin over 400 hp and the thing flies. sounds like a jet too.
though, real Alpina's are cool too....so are e34 m5's...

Keep the e34 M5.
There just is nothing like 'em. As a matter of fact, here in Atlata on Saturday our local branch of bf.com had a meet of about 70 people...tons of cars. A few hour hours into it someone rolled up in a black e34 m5 and nothing there(except for a z8) got so many people staring. They just have style and are cool/rare.
