Duckling dilemma

Last night a duck and her ducklings were in my pool. The ducklings were unable to climb out so I built them a ramp. All night the four ducklings were huddled by the mom and did not move from the step of my pool.

This morning the mom was gone and the ducklings were swimming in my pool. Most websites say to not leave ducklings in a pool since they can drown and get hypothermia. I swam in and caught the ducklings and put them in a box. Then I left for work.

The box was not high enough so they jumped out and my daughter caught two of them. The other two went under my heavy leather couch which my wife and daughters could not lift.

The mother duck returned and was reunited with her two ducklings and my wife called animal control for help. They arrived and rescued the two scared ducklings. Then they tried to catch the mom- she flew away. They told my wife that the ducklings wouldn't make it in our pool for the 8 weeks before they learn to fly. Cats or coyotes would get them and the nest was too high for them to get to (20 feet).

They took away the ducklings and the mom returned. I could hear her maternal anguish over the phone when my wife called me. My wife is at work now and has instructed to call animal control if she still sees the mom there- they will cpature her and try to reunite her with her babies.

Or maybe she will fly away heartbroken. I don't feel so happy

If your daughter touched them, maybe the mom won't want them anymore?
