Time for genmay to prove it's character
I have taken on a little "family project", and I'm having a little trouble with it. Background story, I'll try to be as brief as possible:
I have recently discovered that I have a great uncle (my father's uncle) that I never knew about. This is all that I, and my immediate family, know - He was married some time before World War II. He served in the Marine Corp for an unknown number of years. During World War II he was at the battle of Iwo Jima and was left for dead on the beach. After the battle a priest noticed he was still breathing while performing last rites on him. He was also in another significant battle prior to Iwo Jima in which he saved a lot of men, for which he later recieved a silver star for. After he returned to America after the war, he discovered that his wife had an affair while he was gone. Unable to reconcile their differences, they divorced. This being 1945, and my great grandparents being devout Catholics, they disowned him from the family for divorcing his wife. At this point what exactly happened is kind of unkown. My grandparents and great grand parents are long since passed away. The only thing the family really knows is that he disappeared forever. Some family members say he moved to Alaska, some say Oregon, but nobody knows for sure. His only living next-of-kin is my father's aunt, his sister, who is now a nun in her 80s living in a convent. She currently not in the best of health, and as a present I'd like to find out what happened to her brother. She has spoken on several occasions that she has always been interested about where he went and what his life was like after he left. I'm new to this whole geneology thing, so I'm not doing so well so far. I figured, what better resource to scour the internet than genmay? I know there's a lot of good folks here, and I appreciate any help you guys can provide. You'd be making a very sweet, very kind 80 year old nun very happy. And there is a possibility that you'd be part of reuniting a brother and sister that were (IMO) unfairly separated a long time ago. Though I'll admit the chances of him still being alive are slim. Aside from what I've already told you, the following is all I know about him so far: Name: Cecil Ambrose Griffin Born: between 1911 and 1919 Father's name was Edward USMC Rank was Sgt Grew up in Iowa City, Iowa CLIFFS: 1. Great uncle disappeared 60 years ago 2. I try to enlist genmay's help in finding him

I confess that at these words a shudder passed through me. There was a thrill in the doctor's voice which showed that he was himself deeply moved by that which he told us.

The title alone was too long to read, the post was like text in hell. I just want another yellow folder on the main listing of threads.
Good day.
