What is Torture? Also does USA use torture?

From Dictionary.com

tor·ture ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tôrchr)
n.

Infliction of severe physical pain as a means of punishment or coercion.
An instrument or a method for inflicting such pain.
Excruciating physical or mental pain; agony: the torture of waiting in suspense.
-----------------------------------------------------------

I think USA does not use torture. They may use methods of mental anguish with the enemies we captured. The AbuGharib prison was a screwed up and terrible deal. I think what the people involved got was not nearly what they deserved. They should have gotten a stiffer penalty. They brought shame on the USA. We have to extract information out of these people or our soldier’s dies in the field of battle. We also do not have nearly the success that we have been having if we did not do it. So what do you think?

you s will have a helluva time explaining why our own military and law enforcement training manuals specifically disregard torture as being ineffective, then.

I think that the USA uses subversive means, some that may be tortureous (sp), to get information out of people, but I think that it is justified. Torture for the sake of torture I think is unjustified... Now, while it has happened before in US history and may be happening now in the Middle East, I think that the vast majority of US led torture is moving towards a positive end. Now, while some may say that the ends never justify the means and that our ends do not justify torture ... I believe that using light torture to save lives is justifiable ... knifing somebody's eyes out, cutting somebody's head off, and tearing off finger nails and toe nails to make a political message is not justifiable.

you still fail to answer the question. why then do our own training policies, in both military and law enforcement, say that torture is not a viable practice because any information you can get from it is not reliable?

The people "involved" that you speak of were just following orders.. Grunts don't come up with new tactics to shame Iraqis into spying for them. It should have went all the way up to the top. You know Rumsfeld and the defense department and probably CIA and/or military intelligence were behind it.

Does it Echo up in there when you talk out of your ass?
They don't. They say it's quite effective when properly implemented on multiple subjects.

yes, we use torture. typically when people are captured in Saudi Arabia or somewhere, they are tortured before they are brought here. therefore we arent torturing them, the Saudis are. its outsourcing.

To elaborate on what BBnet said, we outsource our prisoners for torture all around the world; basically any -stan (Pakistan, Uzbekistan, etc) hellhole, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Diego Garcia, and I'm sure the list goes on and on.

I'm sure everyone here has heard of the CIA operated Lear jets that have been seen accross the world, transporting men and women in black hoods. Presumably, thats how the CIA transports its prisoners to said locations for torture.
