Sammich

I'll concede that the humble sandwich is more of an exercise in assembly, rather than cookery, but here goes for my first submission to House and Cookery:

It's lunchtime here in the UK, so collect the ingredients together


Bread, margerine, mature cheddar, ham, salami, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.

Assemble sandwich:

bread
margerine
mayonnaise
lettuce
tomato
salami
ham
cheese
margerine
bread


Cheese plane - an invaluable saftey tool. Decided to buy one after coming home from the pub one night with a craving for cheese on toast. I used a knife to cut the cheese and would have cut the tip of my finger off if i'd not hit the fingernail first!

I think i might have over done it with the tomato this time, but it counts towards my daily five fruit and veg, so what the hell And I'm not sure how this one would work under Sanjay's Sanjich method, anyone care to have a go? I'm full!

Nice sandwich. I may also suggest the use of fancy bread such as Focaccia, I have made similar sandwiches on such bread which were delightful

update:

tried toasting the bread lightly tonight (still got the ingredients and want to use them while they're fresh) and it's definately an improvement

Why not one of the little wire cheese cutters? The cheese plane thing looks much harder to use.

Good looking sandwich, though. I wish I could bring myself to put that kind of energy into making sandwiches.

I use my cheese plane differently to him, I put my block of cheese down on its largest side and bring the plane across the longest edges... gets you perfect sandwich size strips of cheese.

They give you a thinner slice than thise wire cutters too, i'm forever cutting the slices too thick with one of those.
