Bought a new (used) car today (pics to come later) interesting story though...

So finally i get my money from GMAC. The money leftover after paying the balance got me 1063.00 bucks. I had been looking at ads in the BuyandSell and making calls to either a)car is sold
b)leaving a message and not getting a call back
c)car wasn't worth my time at all

Fustrated and finally just going "whatever" I head out with my wife and mother inlaw to do errands and stuff. As we're moving along the street i spot a used car lot called Cars From Mars. I had seen a couple of their ads for cars that under 1k so i asked to stop and let me have a look since we passing by.
I take a look at this 86 Dodge 600. Loaded with a/c and sunroof but missing the passenger side door panel and a couple of power options didn't work. It ran fine and was aircared even but i wasn't thrilled about it.

Then my mother inlaw points out this 90 Oldsmobile Cutlass International. I scope it out. They had to jump start it, and it wouldn't idle so you had to keep the gas pressed to keep it running. This thing fully fucking load. Digital dash, power EVERYTHING, outside/inside temp, trip od with travelled/left to travel, gas mileage current/average, date, you can ever change the digital readouts from km to miles. all of the power stuff worked perfectly fine.
The guy wouldn't let it run for more then about 20 seconds and said that the last time they started it, smoke started coming out of the steering column and under the dash but only when it was running. You could leave it in the run position and nothing would happen. It was also missing a muffler so it had some rumble to that 3.1L V6.
The price tag was 1195 but since it needed work they said i could make an offer on it. The muffler was an easy fix. It was disconnected properly so the pipe was still there ready for a new one. I didn't see smoke or smell anything from the dash or steering but i figured it was still most likely the ignition switch which wasn't a big deal. Wasn't sure about the idling thing though. Of course, it also needed a new battery but that's easy.
I hummed and hawed but i said to the guy i couldn't afford more then 800 bucks and that i had 1060 bucks and after paying for the car and stuff that left me with little money to fix the car. So he sold it to me. For 620 bucks! After tax, transfer fees and everything, the total came to 798 bucks!
I was expecting to add tax and stuff AFTER the 800 but man, what a great bunch of guys!
So wife and mother inlaw leave to finish errands while i wait for a tow truck.
Which turned out to be two and half hours of wait.
So as they were pulling the car out the appeared the rear brakes were siezed cuase they parked the car with the ebrake on. Even though the car is an automatic.
Then i was starting to think to myself "fuck, something else to fix... )
Finally start heading back to my place riding with the tow truck driver (what a guy that was. lol Crazy east indians) I call my wife and tell her to pick up a new battery for me. She asked how she would know what batter to get so i told her to just go to canadian tire and tell her what car it is plus the year and plus the 3.1L V6 engine and they'll be able give correct battery.
Finally get the car to my place, grabbed my tools and got ready to poke around. Just then my wife showed up with the new battery. So i popped it in and hooked it up. Looked at my wife and said "well, let's see if we go up in flames" I fired it up and she fired right up without a problem. Even idled perfectly fine too. We sat for a couple minutes waiting for smoke, but it never came. We pressed every button, checked every light, moved the power seats every which way, everything and everything still worked except for the a/c which was disconnected but not needed since summer is pretty much over. The car idled for a whole 20 minutes and didn't complain once. I was curious about the rear brakes and looked at the ebrake. it was up but i pushed it in with my foot. as i pushed it in held the release back and kept pumping it trying to see the action. I hear a clunk from the rear brakes and my wife and I looked at each other. Guess the brakes just needed some action. I put the car in all the gears and it engaged perfectly. I moved back and forth and sure enough the rear brakes had released and were pefectly fine.
So far after looking though everything all i need to do is pop in a new muffler, take her through aircare (she passed last year with flying colors) and she's ready to go. Took for a quick spin down the back alley and felt great!
So going to pick up a new muffler either tomorrow or monday and then take her for aircare.
I'll take pics tomorrow or sunday if i can.

Cliffs:
bah, enough typing

yeah aircare is a BC thing. Thing has 244k kms and doing some poking around the net apparently the V6 engines seem to really last. Which would explain how the engine is pretty clean all things considered. No oil leaks at all.
