I am offended by the world isajeep.

So a friend pointed out that I went to Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston and New York City this year and didn't get souvenirs from any of those places. I told her "well what's the point? Planes fly there every day and people drive to those places every day, I can see it again if I really really need to."

She went on about some sentimental value stuff but I still don't see the point of buying souvenirs. I think they're just something I'm gonna forget about in a month and end up throwing in the closet for the rest of the year.

So do you like to buy souvenirs when you travel? Is there really a point to doing so? I think pictures are enough. Also one of my friends told me to send her a post card. Well when I was driving in Manhattan rushing to return my rental car and get to the airport I had no time to stop somewhere, get a stamp, buy a postcard, find a mail box and send a useless picture I didn't take to someone.

It depends on my reasons for being in such places. And how poor I am in relation to the price of things, at the time.

something like keeping a poker chip from vegas is cool, but gift shops are just consumer whore traps.

Down here near Padre Island, there are lots of souvenier places near the beach that sell shell necklaces and that kind of crap, when it's pretty much cheap or useless.

I usually like to get something little if it's a place I'm probably not gonna visit again soon. I used to collect shotglasses, which has worked out very well in college. I've got a pair of wooden camels from Kuwait that are pretty cool, glad I got those. I don't like T-shirts or stuff like that, just a little something that's represenative of the place. Pictures are usually enough though.

Never. I don't even take pictures. Vacations are fun but anything material just seems too tacky for me.

I prefer just to take my picture in the presence of said place I am visiting. You can fit hundreds of memories in a photo album, and its just as good if not better than a big box of crap that doesnt do you any good.

Depends on the place and the stuff available. Some times a t-shirt is nice. When I was in canada a few years ago, I got a few stuffed teddy bears dressed like mounties as gifts (and one for myself). When I was in LA, I didn't get any thing excecpt a key chain because collect key chains.
