Another fcking ticket....
Woooow.
I just had an encounterr with the biggest asshole of a cop ever. Lets call him Officer Power Trip. So for the last week I have been sick with a cold, and today I forgot both my asthma inhaler aswell as my medication. I ask my boss if I can go ahead and take an extended lunch so I can possibly go and get my stuff, since I live in the next town over, which is about 20 minutes away. He says its fine, but im not supposed to do it often. Also, Katy (fiestafish) has said she will make me lunch, awesome, I think to myself, because all I have here is a pack of ramen noodles. Start reading here for bulk of the story Anyway, so im on the highway and spot a cop about 50 feet infront of me in the "slow" lane. I am behind about 3 other cars going ~120 (km) so I just pass as regular. 2 seconds later I see sirens behind me...sigh...now im going to be late for lunch So I sit there pondering what the hell I could have done wrong. I remembe I do not have my "N" displayed, but how could he have known I didnt have my full license? So anyway, he walks up to my car (after taking forever) and tells me he pulled me over for having tinted windows. Im like uhh im pretty sure my tint is legal (very light tint on the front windows pretty much to reduce glare, with a dark tint in my back windows). He says that I can take it up with the motor vehicle branch, then I say that the place I got it done at told me it was completely legal, as well as there are many cars in production with this level tint as stock. Either way, it wasnt good enough. Kind of funny how I have gone through 2 road blocks and had been pulled over 3 times since I got my tinting done, and noone seemed to mention it. THEN he went on to say that I need to display my front plate. This is when I point to my dash and explain to him that it is clearly displayed from the front of my car. I tell him I also asked the last officer that pulled me over if it was legal, and he said it was fine. Regardless, he also writes me a fixit ticket for this. Fucking t.So does anyone know the tinting laws in BC, Canada? I might be mistaken and you must have NO tint, but im sure some stock cars come with very little tint, aswell as the place I got it done at warned me that going any higher would be illegal. Why would they tell me to go lower tint on the front because it was legal if it wasnt? Sigh. Its not like you cant see in my windows at all, you have perfect visibility. Anyway, sorry about my rant, its just I dont really have $200 to spare right now and im already having a shitty week. Think anyone can help me out? Thanks.

fight it; the cop was obviously on a power trip.
go to the place u got the tint done and get them to give you something proving its legal; i know that can be done here in the states in tx dunno about canadia. i don think it would be much different. Asshole cops like that really piss me off; i feel your pain!

sucks man. It makes me very nervous to drive my car with the windows up everytime I hear about these fix-it ticket stories, I'm sure mine is even darker than yours but have been lucky enough to not get a ticket for it. I've been pulled over for speeding and he said nothing about my windows. But then 3 weeks later my Uncle is pulled over for window tint. If they are going to be so hit and miss with it, it shouldnt be a law. At least theres a bright side to your story, it isnt a traffic ticket

Get them to prove it's legal, and you're good to go.

Yeah, ive run into many asshole cops in my time, but for the most part, all of the cops that could actually do something have been nice. The others would just hassle me for things they couldnt do anything about. Ive only got 2 speeding tickets and I have been pulled over countless times (I drive a heaty car), but im just honestly pissed off at this guy. Law enforcement is one thing, its not validation to be an asshole for no reason. I could see if I was being a lippy jerk that he would prosecute me to the fullest potential, but im normally always polite with law enforcement individuals. Quote:
Yeah, we've all heard the horror stories, I just never really expected it to happen to me. And even though the level of tint is really low, it makes it a lot nicer to drive on sunny days, and reduces glare a lot. And yeah, I originally wanted to go darker, but the shop told me it was illegal, so I didnt...blah Glad you guys feel me, sucks when this kind of thing happens I really cant afford it either!Oh well, dont sweat the small stuff!

Almost no provinces allows side tint. At all. While yes the cop was probably being dinkish, you should have just shut up and taken the ticket. Talking back or trying to explain to the cop thet you are right would just give him a reason to bother you further and waste your time.
People have gotten $2000 reckless driving 100mph tickets dropped to a lane change violation before. With retarded stuff like tint and where your front plate is, the court would probably just tell you to gtfo and remove your tint without a fine. Manitoba is the only one that allows tint. 45% tint at that so it probably wouldn't even be worth it. lol Newfoundland + Ontario don't have any laws forbidding front tint, but they also don't have anything stating that it's legal.

Let's name him "Officer Doing His Job" sure it sucks to get ticketed for something like that but is is illegal.
BC motor vehicle act states there is to be no film on the windows beside and in front of the driver. Behind the driver can be what ever the hell you want. OEM windows get past this law because they don't use film to tint the windows. Just because someone told you your tint was legal does not make it so. Just pay your ticket, it's only $85 for window tint and be happy he didn't make you rip it off on the spot. I'm not too sure on the front plate thing, but the entire motor vehicle act can be found online with a little bit of searching. |

ben im too lazy to read the posts but i can answer this
ANY tint on the front 3 windows in canada is illegal. and the liscence place must me mounted in a horizontal fashion (bumper) having it in the window is also illegal, i asked about this on revscene in their police section. Its used as a reflector for the radar gun, as well as if its behind ur window the cop might not be able to read it due to window glare, Same goes for border crossing, since they take a pic of u when u enter) secondly, never question the officer on the ticket he is giving you, you should have taken it and then just gone to the motor vehicle branch with it and argued with them

alrite ben here is what i got for you
1. dont fight with cops, ur stupid on that count 2. Division 3 MVAR states It does have to be mounted in the front, and mounted horizontally on the bumper. It cannot be obstructed in any way. i know ur plate is not fully visable, like dans. from the rulebook: Prohibition 3.01 No person shall drive or operate a vehicle on a highway unless it bears number plates in compliance with this Division. [en. B.C. Reg. 147/79, s. 2.] Attachment of number plates 3.011 Number plates for a vehicle shall be attached (a) where, under the Act, 2 number plates are issued and authorized for display on a vehicle, one plate to the front and one plate to the rear of the vehicle, and (b) where, under the Act, a single number plate is issued and authorized for display on a vehicle, to the rear of the vehicle. [en. B.C. Reg. 147/79, s. 2.] Attachment of validation decal 3.012 Where a validation decal is issued under the Act for attachment to a number plate, it shall be applied to the designated place on the rear number plate [en. B.C. Reg. 147/79, s. 2.] Number plates in horizontal position 3.02 A number plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued. Plates to be unobstructed 3.03 A number plate must be kept entirely unobstructed and free from dirt or foreign material, so that the numbers and letters on it may be plainly seen and read at all times and so that the numbers and letters may be accurately photographed using a speed monitoring device or traffic light safety device prescribed under section 83.1 of the Act. [en. B.C. Reg. 185/96, s. 1; am. B.C. Reg. 215/99, App. 1, s. 1.] So pretty much your fucked, the widnow prevents the plate from beind photographed, and its not horizontal, its illegal. WINDOW TINT: in British columbia Canada widow tint rules are as follows. No tint on ANY WINDOWS unless you have 2 outside rear facing mirrors (the door mounted ones that i know you have) No tint is allowed on the front windsheild below the top 7.5cm, or the passender/driver windows you can check Reference 7.05(8/9) of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations for tint by film rules here is the technical from the 7.05 (8/9) (8) No person shall drive or operate on a highway a motor vehicle which has affixed to or placed on the windshield or a window any material that reduces the light transmitted through the windshield or window unless the material is affixed to or placed on (a) the windshield but not more than 75 mm below the top of the windshield, (b) a side window that is behind the driver, or (c) the rear window if the motor vehicle is equipped with outside rear view mirrors on the left and right side of the motor vehicle. (9) If a motor vehicle contains manufactured glass, tinting contained within the glass must meet the minimum light transmittancy requirements under the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Also i think i read in there somewhere that front tint is legal, but it cannot be a film, it needs to be inbetween the window, or u can used smoked glass, But the tint levels are VERY VERY low.

You are a

The window tinting ticket is fine, IF I would have been going like 140km/h and was a dick to him, I could see him bringing it up, but pulling me over for the sole reason to hassle me about my tint, I mean common. And Ive met plenty of "Officer Doing Their Job", so dont bring that up trying to be an asshole. The cop was being a dick for no reason, ive ran into plenty of fine cops that have ticketed me just because of their job, this guy was intentionally being mean, Anyway, thats not the issue. Im gonna go read c0nspires post ![]()
