I'm a total noob here, so bear with me. Sorry about the blurry, I just can't get a clear shot with anything, especially long exposures. Even when i'm not holding the camera. These were all taken with my A520 just a few minutes ago. That's about 10:00pm local time. It's dark. K, that being said here's the pics.

(1 and 2 had the flash on, )

3

4

5

6

7

8

I actually didn't meant to capture any cars, they just kept driving through my shot.
4 is my personal favorite, although i didn't remember to manual focus until 7 and 8.

These aren't great but they are a place to start. Dhermit got me into long-exposures in February. They are fun and it forces you to become familiar with your camera. i.e. manual focus as you did in 7 and 8.

a tripod would help, i'm sure. unfortunately i don't have access to one. had to get creative with things to set the camera on.

I would reccomend using the 2 second self timer so that pressing the shutter release doesn't wobble the camera and lead to blur.

A tripod might help get the ground in the foreground out of your shot. For example, I think 4 would be better without that grating.

Setting the camera on a car was a good idea, but 3, 5, and 8 make me wish there was something going on in the background. Although, the DOF makes 5 kinda cool.

i love extended exposure shots. there is lots of wiggleroom and many different ways to do it, the only way to get good at it is to try new things. I've got many long exposure shots in my dev art. check it out for some examples.

tripod or steady surface
iso set to the lowest possible
shoot in Shutter Priority mode then eventually in M to experiment
2 second timer
experiment with flash and read your manual

actually i figured out most of that on my own. was using the 2 second timer for the button-press blur. used flash (with just a little success) in later photos, which i'm about to post, my camera was set to M with those, using ISO50. the strange POV is due to my having to be creative in where i set the camera. the ones on the car, as were mentioned, make for an interesting shot when i'm lucky.

and my manual is worthless. reading the ingredient list on a box of triscuts gives me a lot more usefull information.

more pics.

first, some acid-trip looking pics i took while driving. totally not serious about these, but a few of them turned out awesome looking.

only the first is a long exposure. then a daylight shot for comparison.

and then i looked out and saw an awesome looking sunset reflecting off that same cottonwood tree.

For some reason the pictures in your last post aren't loading all the way for me. When I refresh they load somewhat more, and I can repeat to end up loading even more. Any idea why?

A pic I took of my cat a while ago. Click for high res
Setting was a completely dark room, I think either a 15 or 30 second exposure
