Fixed my camera...for the 2nd time (pics)

Nothing special, just my trusty Canon SD300. I carry it everywhere so it gets beaten pretty badly. About 5 months ago, the screen went out on me. I sent it back to Canon, and 135.00 later I had my camera back.

Skip to last Wednesday. At the racetrack and had the camera in my lower pocket of my shorts. Ran a little too fast and the damera slapped my leg. Pull it out a few minutes later to use it and it's CRACKED..

Fun part: Looking closer at my camera I notice 2 screws missing from the case.. I'm like wtf? Then I decided to go deeper. I found one screw only partially screwed in on the daughter board on the inside. Looks like when Canon did the repair they did a shit-tastic job of it.

Refusing to send it back to them AGAIN for more money, I dismantled the camera. Let me tell, it's CRAMPED in that puppy. Turns out it's a standard Sony 2.5" sceen so I ordered one for 50 bux with Next Day shipping. Dusted the inside of the camera and slapped it in just now.

And what are the 1st pics I took with my new LCD screen installed?

I'll never send anything to Canon again..

Good for you! (no sarcasm )

When you send camera stuff back to Canon you're paying to get the job done correctly and to spec. Fully inspected by a trained person, in a setting that will ensure your camera wont get fucked up further.

You've got a huge pair of balls to open up a point and shoot. They usually dont go back together again. They are humpties paradox.

I've never taken apart an SD, but I have taken apart an A60 and it wasn't too hard to get back together.

Canon probably would've fixed it free the second time. They usually give you a 6mo warranty on their work.

The thing is, they probably considered that death from abuse as opposed to from their error.

But they might have screwed it up for the second time with the loose screws. I sent a Kodak camera back (yeah i know, it's just something I carry around and not worry about). They fixed it for free and I had it back in 7 business days and only paid $5 for shipping. Camera is only decent but service was great.
Good luck with that cannon holding up for the next while.

depends on the series and brand, some cameras are harder than others.

Usually it's more a matter of keeping the dust out while re-assembiling the case, but like I said, some are easier than others.
