how sensitive are smoke detectors in dorm rooms? (3 pics)

The dorm I live in on campus has 4 seperate bedrooms, and a livingroom/kitchen.
in each bedroom is this smoke detector:




It is in the far corner of my room above the door. (same one just different views)

Will lighting one stick of incense in my room possibly with the door closed set it off? I’m not using it to cover up the smell of smoke, I just want my room to smell good, it’s not going to be a lot of smoke. Someone told me that this kind of detectors are really "heat" detectors, and only if it gets hot enough from a real fire, or thick smoke, will it go off by the red chemical in the middle heating to a certain degree.

Does anyone have any experience with this specific kind of detector?

One we have is so sensitive that it goes off if you burn some toast in the toaster...

that's a sprinkler. Red bulb melts/shatters when it gets too hot, water starts coming out

Those are the heat kind, incense will be fine as long as your bed or something doesn't catch on fire.

Mercury? Guess again you maroon.



Usually they are a wax or some time of plastic that has a relatively low melting point. Once the temp gets hot enough to melt the wax (or plastic) the air in the lines bleeds out and THEN the water starts.
