Zionist Occupation Forces (ZOF) Kill 11 Palestinians and injure 27 in One Week

(February 2-8, 2006)

• 11 Palestinians were assassinated by ZOF.
• 27 Palestinian civilians, including 17 children, were wounded by ZOF.
• ZOF conducted 40 incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
• 78 Palestinian civilians, including 12 children, were arrested by ZOF.
• A house was transformed by ZOF into a military site.
• ZOF have continued to impose a total siege on the OPT, especially in the West Bank; ZOF arrested 9 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children, at checkpoints in the West Bank.
• ZOF have continued to construct the Annexation Wall in the West Bank; ZOF razed areas of Palestinian land near "Ariel" settlement; ZOF seized 280 dunums of agricultural land in the northern West Bank and 129 dunums in Beit Hanina village near Al-Quds; ZOF uprooted 120 olives trees in Al-Khalil; 6 demonstrators were injured by ZOF in Bal'ein village near Ramallah; and ZOF arrested 3 Palestinian children near the Wall.
• Zionist settlers have continued to attack Palestinian civilians and property in the OPT; 8 Palestinian civilians were injured in 3 attacks by Zionist settlers in Al-Khalil; and 5 under-construction houses were demolished by ZOF.

Killing:

ZOF escalated extra-judicial executions against members of Palestinian factions. An ZOF spokesman stated that ZOF would continue to pursue "launchers of locally made rockets at Israel”. During the reported period, ZOF committed 5 extra-judicial executions, including 4 in the Gaza Strip. Eleven Palestinians, including a civilian bystander, were killed, and 5 others, including 3 children, were injured. These executions were committed between 5-7 February 2006. During the reported period, ZOF shelled Palestinian communities in the Gaza Strip. They also fired at Palestinian civilians during incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank. As a result, 27 civilians were wounded, including 5 who were wounded during extra-judicial executions.

Incursions: ZOF conducted 40 military incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank. During these incursions, ZOF raided houses and arrested 78 Palestinian civilians, including 12 children. ZOF also transformed a house into a military site. ZOF used undercover units and trained dogs during these incursions.

Restrictions on Movement: ZOF have continued to impose a comprehensive siege on the OPT, in violation of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Palestinian civilians.

ZOF have continued to impose a tightened siege on the Gaza Strip, transforming it into a big jail. ZOF have continued to impose a tightened siege on Palestinian communities in the West Bank. They have imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in the West Bank. During the reporting period, ZOF positioned at various checkpoints arrested 9 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children.

Annexation Wall: ZOF have continued to construct the Annexation Wall inside the West Bank. During the reported period, ZOF continued to raze areas of land in Marda village, southwest of Nablus. They uprooted 120 olive trees in Jamroura area, west of Al-Khalil, and confiscated 280 dunums of agricultural land in the villages of Hijja, Kufor Laqef, Kufor Thuluth and 'Azzoun near Qalqilya and Deir Estia near Nablus. ZOF also issued a military order confiscating 129 dunums of agricultural land in Beit Hanina village, north of Al-Quds. The leader of the Israeli Likud Party, Benjamin Netanyahu, called for moving the route of the Wall several kilometers deeper into West Bank territory. ZOF also used force against Palestinian civilians and international and Jewish solidarity activists who demonstrated in protest to the construction of the Wall in Bal'ein village, west of Ramalah. Two demonstrators were injured and ZOF arrested a Jewish solidarity activist. In addition, ZOF have imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians on both sides of the Wall.

Illegal Settler Activities: Zionist settlers have launched a series of attacks against Palestinian civilians and property. They attacked at least 40 Palestinian school children, who were traveling in a bus near al-'Arroub refugee camp, north of Al-Khalil. They also attacked a Palestinian civilian in Yatta village, south of Al-Khalil. In addition, ZOF demolished 5 under-construction houses in Shaqba village, northwest of Ramallah, for the purpose of settlement expansion

Over the past two days, Zionist occupation forces have assassinated 8 Palestinian resistance members. These assassinations are the latest in a non-stop sequence of occupation crimes that has persisted throughout Al-Aqsa Intifada, and extending back to the start of the occupation. Furthermore, these crimes did not cease during the period of calm declared by Palestinian resistance factions in February 2005.

Over the past month, occupation forces have killed 15 Palestinians, including 2 children. In addition, 35 Palestinians were injured, including 13 children. Over 220 Palestinians were detained during more than 170 raids against towns and villages. Land continues to be confiscated for settlement expansion and for constructing the West Bank wall.

With death, injury, night raids, obstruction of movement, and confiscation of rights and land, Palestinians taste the bitter reality of the occupation daily. Yet they find themselves receiving most of the blame for this situation.

The international community has become accustomed to viewing occupation actions as “self defense” and Palestinian reactions as “terrorism.” That is why the international community is vocal when demanding that Hamas “renounce violence,” while not issuing a single statement condemning the death and murder of Palestinian civilians, and the confiscation and destruction of their property.

The Palestinian people are aware of, and are tired of, the double standards adopted by some countries in the international community. If violence is to be renounced, then it is the violence of aggression and occupation, not the resistance of the victims.
