so I have 2 hard drives in my computer.

HDD1 - C:\ - 300gb
HDD2 - D:\ - 250gb

I just reformated and reinstalled windows XP pro sp2 on HDD1...

Now that I have all my drivers and apps installed, I noticed that windows didn't have a drive letter for my 2nd hard drive..

I go under Disk Management, and the drive is labeled as "Unallocated Space"

ermm this is a huge problem, ALL of my stuff is saved on this drive (250gigs of stuff!) and I DEFINITALLY need it back.

I didn't touch that HDD at all during windows install, so I have a feeling maybe that hdd crashed, or the partition table got tossed or something...

But I definitally need help fixing this drive!
What are my options?

did you reinstall windows on c drive with the 2nd drive UNPLUGGED? that is the sane way to do it because windows no matter how careful you are is strange sometimes...

In disk management console you MAY be able to right click the 2nd drive and select "import foreign disk"

if you have this option your drive me be saved \m/

Whatever you do don't run CHKDSK, in my experience when it runs into these types of problems it tends to helpfully unlink all the files and update the MFT accordingly, making it even more difficult to get them back.

thanks for the suggestions, I was actually trying to find a way to run chkdsk, but it looked like i could only do it if there was a drive letter

threnx, thanks for suggesting getdataback, i hope this is a reliable program. I got it started scanning files, this is going to be a looooooooooong process...

I've used it only once, in a situation almost exactly like your's, and it performed perfectly.

You can also try out File Scavenger 3.0. It got back most of my data after a RAID array of mine took a dump on me.
