I went to a coffeehouse/concert to take some pics of a couple local bands/artists that were playing. Lighting is hard at concerts. I need a 85 f1.8 or 105/2 (the 1.4 is WAYYY too $$$ for me)

All shot with D70, RAW, ISO 1600, 50mm f1.4 except pic #3, that was 70-200VR.

onto the pics!

#0 (messed up uploading :S) - bros ho

You need to run those through Noise Ninja.

I dont own (is it free?) noise ninja - although the noise doesnt bother me really - the few where noise is very prevalent I made that way on purpose. ??

Any other comments? (from anyone?)

Only a comment on how good/bad my camera is?

Don't know about Noise Ninja, but Neat Image and Noiseware (personal favourite) have free editions, as long as it is not for commercial purposes.

Good job keeping the microphone stands, etc. out of the shots, and nice composition. A little work on your timing is needed, to catch the performer at the peak of their action versus just after (ie eyes closed, awkward positioning), but that comes with practice. Great shots!

Thanks regime

I saw a demo of what neat image can do today (looking at D2H vs D2Hs reviews) so I think i'll be getting that to use in case of other pics/if I want to print one of these. Im not going to go through and neat image them all (unless I can do like a batch operation or something)

I would like it, but it seems that either there was some movement or the focus point is somewhere between the guitar and his face, neither one looks very sharp

Ya - it could be because shutterspeed was 1/80 at ISO1600 underexposed 2 stops (because I used the 70-200 for that shot - alot slower than the 1.8 I was shooting at most of the night)

They only had one light on for his performance and it doesnt help that hes brown skinned either.
