negative camber comparison - and car whoring!

So i thought i'd take this interesting observation as an excuse to share it and to whore my new car.

We all know what negative camber is for, what it does, and what it looks like. As far as camber goes, I have my 92 miata setup with -1.0 in the front and -1.6 in the rear. I could always tell my old miata had that by looking at the car from the rear, but i was washing my new miata today, and parked it behind my old miata and noticed the comparison.

My new miata has the factory alignment, which is made for long tire life, not for performance... just as all "stock alignments" on your average car is.

I havn't done jackshit to my new miata, but eventually i will get it setup similar to the old one with shocks, sways, alignment, etc etc

So i was walking behind my car innocently admiring its beauty

when i noticed this! i know what camber is, but seeing it compaired to a stock setup was oddly interesting

and then i took more pics of my new car for genmay.

When I took my car in for an allignment my rear passenger side wheel had really fucked up camber but after everything was dialed in, I looked at it and both rear tires still have a lot of negative camber. I actually thought they fucked up the allignment. I brought it to the guys attention while the car was on the lift and he said its where it should be according to the computer. Mine are def somewhere around 1.5. Ill take a pic and you can tell me if its normal. never seen anything like it, before so it freaked me out at first. but the car drives great, and very straight.

Have you ridden in a Miata? Experience would tell you that dropping it any more would make for a much harsher ride..

Plus, once you have people in the car the wheel gap drops considerably. It just looks weird when its sitting idle.

BTW, OP - Very nice wheels.

Thanks.. the wheels are stock.

With the stock suspension, the ride hight optimises handling to the best extent possible.

With aftermarket shocks, the car can be lowered around 1.5 inches for improved handling, but is only advantagious if you have a stiffer setup, and aftermarket bump-stops to allow for additional suspension travel. That's what i did to my 92.

I can guarentee that it wasn't - because this is a "Shinsen Version" Miata, there were only 1451 ever made in 2003, and will never be made again. This car is #140 off the production line. They came with a 5 speed, and a Clutch-Type limited-slip rear differential, as well as the "convinience package(tweeters, power everything, keyless everything). The Shinsen Version was the only miata to ever use Titanium Grey and have a slightly blue tinted soft-top and interior. See the logo behind the front wheel? That's the Shinsen Badge.

The Shinsen Version was never offered by MazdaSpeed.

The mazdaspeed was Gunmetal IIRC.
