Halt! Hammerzeit! (ITT: I progressively rip out my interior)
Well, I came up with a grand idea to pass time this weekend at my parents' house. I decided that I would commandeer the garage and start taking everything out of my car in order to prepare for sound deadening removal. Well, that process turned out to be a little more tedious than I had expected. I removed pretty much everything needed to get under the carpet, but the last bit of carpet requires the removal of the entire dash. I was getting tired of tooling around with a screwdriver and a set of sockets, so I decided to make this a progress thread.
I started with the rear hatch. Everything came out easily enough. I found lots of dead leaves and broken glass (from the previous owner) in the areas under the floor. I started moving towards the front seats, removing them in order to lift up the carpet. I called albertsons about dry ice earlier. (Dry ice freezes the sound deadening and makes it brittle, and easier to break with a hammer). They only sell it in 10lb blocks, but offered to break it up into pieces for me. I don't think I will be going there tonight. Tonight will be spent cursing and removing my dash. Anywhere, here's a couple of pictures I snapped for no real reason. I'll keep updating throughout the night I suppose. I don't have much else to do. ![]() Here's a shot of the garage. A bunch of my interior junk is just lying around. Pretty small space to work in. The tatami mats and large slabs of granite don't really help much. ![]() Special seat gets a special place (bedroom). The last thing I need is someone stealing nearly 800 dollars worth of seat when I'm inside washing my hands. ![]() And here's just about as far as I got. The rear hatch is completely ready. I just need to get the front part. I wish I could just cut it off with a knife, but I actually have plans to replace the carpet afterwards. -__- ![]() More updates to come.

I love how the car seat is worth more than the (lack of) bed

Why do you want to remove the sound deadener? Weight savings?

No offense but removing sound deadening is the most pointless waste of time I can think of. I should know, I've done it. I estimate the whole lot would have weighed under 5kg. Removing the carpet would save more weight.

that's fine, but i'm stuck here with no friends and well, nothing. So i might as well get all that crap out. I'm thinking of just leaving it this way, but I can't imagine anyone riding in the passenger seat would find it too comfortable.

true dat Me and davezore gutted a Tercel, but it was free and we wanted to play rally car. It doesn't do anything except make the car feel more hollow and more down to business. I won't do this in any daily driver of mine. Now if you get rid of the carpet entirely, blast the floor clean, and rhinoline it or something, then you got something Spilled a shake? Who cares, get the hose!

mmmm stripping interiors... lots of fun until you realize you have to put it all back together, and when you're not upgrading it significantly it's annoying.
I've got it down to about 4 hours now, to fully strip a supra interior.

![]() I think i'm going to call it a night. Apparently, I need a 8mm socket/open end wrench to take off the dash. I don't have one of these, so I'm going to borrow one tomorrow, get the dash off and chip out the sound deadening. After that I'll probably replace the dash and wait til sunday to put the rest of the crap back in.

Just tried using a putty knife, as suggested by two fellow automayers. It works, but it doesnt work quick enough for me. It also leaves a bit of a residue on the metal.
