Can I still attach my lens cap to a filter?

I've a Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 but the lens cap snaps onto the inside rings (where I'd screw in a filter). If I screw in a filter will I still be able to snap on the cap? Its filter diameter is 77mm.

I'm sure this is a ridiculously simple question, but I just wanna be sure before I buy some filters online.

Oh and any recommendations for filters? I've heard Hoya mentioned a few times here.

I have yet to see a filter that prevents the lens cap from snapping on. That would be a pretty terrible design.

Yeah, almost all filters will have front filter threads, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Only filter I've had a bit of a tough time with is my Hoya 52mm which seems to have slightly thinner front filter threads. The cap touches the glass which makes me nervous. I'm now using this old Nikon metal snap-on hood with my 50mm, though, and the cap snaps onto the hood when it's reversed instead of the filter. However... it makes me nervous when I put the hood on there because it snaps on like a lens cap would!

Cool thanks guys

ahh yeah, i was just looking here http://www.hoyafilter.com/products/hoya/pro1d-03.html and i can see how the part that is screwed in actually is resessed, so i could stack em actually.

Would using two filters like Lens>UV>PL pose any technical problems?

I wouldn't recommend it. Depending on the lens, stacking filters may show some vignetting in your images. Secondly, keep in mind that you're changing an existing optical system, so propensity to flare and ghost will increase if you have two filters on there.

As long as it isn't a slim filter. A really nice B+W polarizer I have actually doesn't work with lens caps. But it was a gift.

Have you had issues using two?

No, I just don't do it.

I know that on my 18-70 I will get vignetting with a second filter. I think I had tried at one point.

LOL check out their "comparison photo". It's a generic one they use for all their UV filters and it's horrible. Looks like someone just blurred and jacked with the color balance.

Not a good selling point when the "without filter" looks better than the "with filter" lol

Yeah! I saw that. I kept thinking "the one without a filter is sharper..."
