No place better than the Lone Star State!

Wow an HSF thread, haven't had one of these in a long time

I am looking for an HSF for an AM2 system. I don't need anything for overclocking or fan control or the like. Right now I have thinking about the Thermaltake Silent Boost RX K8. Also I am looking for basic simplicity, but better than the retail the HSF, so no giant monsters or something. Also do heatpipes really look like magic, and how is Zalman?

Stay away from Thermaltake, you'll regret it if you don't.

Zalman's CNPS8000 is a good simple choice that isn't too big. Thermalrights are better but most don't come with fans.

Wow that actually looks perfect, just one question, do I have to use the fan control module or can I just plug it in for power. And after typing that question, that really seems retarded that I don't knot it. What's wrong with Thermaltake?

You can plug the fan control directly into your mobo. You don't need to use their controller.

thanks, I feel retarded for actually asking that.

Now time to see if my RAM slots are at least 18mm away from the end of the retention system.

Thermaltakes are mostly loud and not very effective... their only real exception would be the Big Typhoon, but that thing is massive.

well that sure does suck. How are their power supplies? I just ordered a 700w modular one for a great deal.

What motherboard?

Note(1) The distance from the end of AM2 retention frame to RAM slot should be at least 18mm, or interference may occur. Please refer to the manual and the layout of the M/B for any possible interference and feasibility of creating Dual-Channel configuration.

Asus M2R32-MVP, it's only 10mm away with a capacitor right in between the ram slot and the retention bracket

sucks that not all boards build enough space around the cpu for decent cooling solutions. I had to rma a board after knocking a resistor off when putting my watercooling setup on it next board I had to sand down a washer or two to just avoid screwing the resistor off.

that sucks
I just got my processor in today and it has a stock AMD HSF without the heatpipes, so off to find something that will fit
