Calling in my 360 for repairs. Any last minute tips?

I have been planning to call in my 360 broken for a few months now. I have not done it yet because I am up at college and not only am I too busy, I don't want the mail center here touching my stuff. I found out that they can deliver it to my apartment though so I think it will be fine.

Another reason that I am turning it in today is because I tried to play it five times today and was unsuccessful. The first 3 times, it randomly freezes on start up of games or during a game. The last two times, during the game, the screen would just go black. The 360 will still be on and the connectors still plugged in but the screen just goes black. I turn it off and turned it back on and a few min later, it did the same thing.

I also am planning on telling them that it is very loud, gets very hot in the back and it is definitely scratching my CDs. Anything else I should say? Any last minute tips? What are your experiences? Appreciate it.

Ask them if you can get an Elite if you offer them extra.

don't send any cords with it, if you do you will never get them back

and the 360 power supplies are like $80

Seriously, just send the unit itself and nothing else.

Yeah, I definately have to send it in. I just turned it on to play a few games and the first time, during the first few mins of the game, the screen turned completely red, just like before when it turned completely black. It continues to run from seeing the 360 and hearing it prr. I turn it off and turn it back on and it freezes on startup with the logo. I turned it off and back on and then it doesnt even turn on at all, just sits there with lights on, green, on power supply and 360 box but nothing happening. After a while, I got the red ring of death with all lit up but the top right quadrint. No clue what is going on but def going to send in.

Yeah true, I just dont really see the upgrade. The elite doesnt have the upgraded chipset or a quieter drive and my tv doesnt support hdmi. It has the 120 gb tho.

Just updating for those wondering. Microsoft really is stepping up their warranty policies. It must be because of the raved complaints that came out. Here is an article from XBOX 360 Fanboy

Quote:
While earlier today we reported on MS offering replacement discs for recent games they published, we're now giving you the heads up for their new warranty policy on the console itself. First off, they're supplying free shipping both ways should your console call it quits. Now, if you send in a console after the warranty has expired, you'll have to still pay for repairs, but will get another year's warranty with it. On top of that, the console you get sent back, within five business days, will be the one you sent, for the most part. Finally, the customer service representatives will be providing a much better experience for consumers should they contact MS with an issue.

Sounds like Microsoft is taking action and showing they want to be known for the way they treat those who aren't getting the best results from their 360. You happy to hear this, or is it about damn time?
I was able to call today and got great support. When you call and the computer takes you through trouble shooting, if you say "agent" it will automatically get a rep for you. When I got the rep, I complained, saying it always froze up, it finally died and was scratching my cds. He asked for my addy, explained the process and I was on my way in 5 min. They basically send you a box in 3 business days. You box it up and call UPS to pick it up FROM YOUR HOUSE (very nice). THey then try to fix it and if it is unrepairable, they send you a new one quickly. Very impressed.

Only thing I was mad about is the response from the scratching my CDs question. I told him I never move my 360 while it is on and it has to be the 360 scratching my discs. He told me the "solution" was to never turn on or power down my 360 with the cd in the tray. Everytime to play, I must go on dashboard first then insert it. That is the dumbest thing I heard but wahtever. All in all, very happy.

that's pretty of them. scratched discs isn't the biggest 360 issue, but it's big enough to warrant a redesign. even disc drives you find in PC towers have protection in place to prevent scratching even if you move the unit around. basically, 360 has no excuse for scratching discs, regardless of whether or not you're moving it around. having to remove the disc before turning on/off your console is WEAK.

just so you know though, they do offer a replacement plan for microsoft published games. still costs you $20 though, which is pretty sad.

I don't really understand why the DVD-Grinder hasn't been fixed yet. It's actually not that big of an issue...a Dremel and a few seconds worth of work takes care of the problem.

You don't have to do what the CSR said, though. As per usual, this CSR didn't know the exact answer to the problem and gave the safest answer that they possibly could.

Yeah, I definitely agree there is a problem and that it should be fixed. Hopefully my new 360 (if I am given a new one) will fix the problem. I made sure the guy wrote it down in my report so that they can look into it at least.

Something weird though, my friend said that they guarantee a new box or a repaired one in 5 business days. That would be astonishing man. The box should come in a few days so I am thinking I should have my 360 by next Thursday. I will keep this thread updated with my experiances for future reference.
