Die Schläge sollen u. a. von der im Indischen Ozean gelegenen Insel Diego Garcia aus geführt werden: Von dort sollen B-52-Bombenflugzeuge mit Flügelraketen starten. Darüber hinaus sollen sich die Fliegerkräfte von den Flugzeugträgern an dem Angriff beteiligen, die sich derzeit im Persischen Golf befinden bzw. zur im Mittelmeer stationierten 6. US-Flotte gehören. Weitere Flügelraketen sollen von U-Booten abgeschossen werden, die im Stillen Ozean und vor der Küste der Arabischen Halbinsel kreuzen.
Mit diesem Schlag solle Irans Nuklearprogramm gleich um mehrere Jahre zurück versetzt werden. Eine logische Folge davon wäre ein Anstieg der Ölpreise auf 75 bis 80 Dollar pro Barrel, und zwar für eine längere Zeit.

Über die neue Iran-Resolution, deren Entwurf von allen ständigen Mitgliedsländern des UN-Sicherheitsrates sowie von Deutschland gebilligt wurde, soll indessen im Sicherheitsrat noch in dieser Woche abgestimmt werden. Das Dokument sieht Sanktionen gegen zehn staatliche iranische Unternehmen und drei weitere Unternehmen vor, die von den Wächtern der Islamischen Revolution verwaltet werden - einer Elitetruppe, die unmittelbar dem religiösen Führer Irans, Ayatollah Ali Chamenei, unterstellt ist.

Die Sanktionen sollen außerdem gegen 15 Personen gelten - acht ranghohe Leiter von Staatsunternehmen sowie sieben zentrale Figuren im Korps der Wächter der Islamischen Revolution.
