School me on brake material
I'm looking for some new brake pads/rotors for my Grand Am and I am thinking I want something a little better than the standard OEM. This is mainly because there brakes are notoriously fade-prone and not particularily powerful.
So is there any advantage to using pads with odd materials like Cermaic and Titanium? Will there super-duper zinc-plated rotors and titanium pads really help my car stop any faster? |

For the Grand Am; IIRC yours is a GT1 and not an SE so you'll already have the rear discs instead of drums. For the fronts, your best bet, as the factory floating calipers are HORRIBLY undersized for the chassis, is to pickup a front caliper/rotor combo from either the 4th generation Camaro/Firebird or C5 Corvette. This will pretty much take care of the ineffective brake configuration of the N-body. Both options are a bolt on install to the Grand Am/Alero/Malibu cars
Rotors.... I have drilled and slotted rotors but that is mainly for appearance reasons on my car and as argued in CViggens' thread they are not really functional beyond that. I'd say get some quality Brembo or Bendix blanks. Pads.... I like Hawk HP pads for street use, however PBR or Bendix pads are easier to come by and are very well suited to street use.

Yes, my friend is currently running Camaro calipers on his GA/SE ... he was going to use Corvette calipers but didn't want to spend the money. I'll try to get a pic for you when I get a chance.
Fake edit: look up cyrix (Brandon) on GAGT or GAOC and it should show a post of his brakes before his car was totaled and his brakes were transfered over to Grabulators' (Matt's) GA/SE.
