Wow I didn't realize I had this much scrap.

Me and my buddy are running scrap tomorrow...I didn't realize I had so much laying behind my shop Its still hovering around $200 a ton I believe so hopefully I'll make out. Worst part is I've still got more back there.

My truck only weighs 2900lbs I did pay less than $200 for it, but I've got way more in the 5spd swap so I wouldn't profit We are scrapping another truck though.

worth every single penny. Mine is the lowest model 3M Speedglas makes, still cost me $130, but its sooo much better than any harbor freight or other cheapy out there.

$200 a ton for scrap steel? Hope the scrap yard is close enough to make it worth your while.

Best thing since sliced bread. Unless you enjoy flipping your shield up & down.

I love my auto darkening helmet...

$200 a ton sounds a bit high. We're hiring a scrap company to come in and take all of ours at $115 a ton, and they're paying slightly higher than the average scrap centers in our area since we've got at least 200 tons or so.

maybe its higher in your area.

BTW, if you have car radiators, you can get WAY more if your take the time to rip all the steel and non-copper parts off of them, so its just copper. I got $.40 for them without removing the metal, and $1.50 a pound after removing the metal.

Worth it if you get a good one. Miller, 3M, Hobart, Optrel, etc. For occasional home use I wouldn't even bother with a cheapie AD hood. Then again I learned to weld with a fixed lens so I might be a little biased. The only time I see the advantage to AD hoods is doing alot of tacking, besides that I can manage just fine with a fixed lens.

My old machinist did a lot of work on Caddy HT4100s. Slowly during the year a pile of those unfixable aluminum blocks would pile up behind his shop and a week before vacation he would call over the scrap buyer and cash in that metal. Paid for some nice vacations.

Yes, I remember having a rash of those Caddy 4.1L engines at the shop as well. Drive the iron cylinder liners out & you have a nice chunk of aluminum. Think I might have a couple of those cyl. liners in a box somewhere.

Pistons were our scrap mainstay. Our shop averaged about eight to ten 55gal drums full a year. Worst part was removing all those stuck compression rings.

did those particular cadillac motors have alot of problems which caused the blocks to be scrapped?
