networking 2 buildings > 328ft.. cheap and reliable.. suggestions?

I have 2 buildings I need to network together.

The facts:

Building A has 99% of users, domain controller, networking cabinet, etc.. basically the main building.

Building B holds all the trash (waste to energy company), and has 1 office. The user is currently on dial up.

Building A has DSL. This place is out in the sticks and this is the best they can do unless they pop for a t1.

They don't want to spend money running new cabling.

The 2 buildings are connected together with a digital phone system. 1 phone in building B, the rest in A.

They were hoping to be able to connect building B via the phone lines so they don't have to run anything. Is this possible? What kind of special networking equipment would I need. DSL extender?

I was thinking about maybe doing directional wireless between the two buildings.

This basically needs to be cheap. This is the main factor. It doesn't have to be fast. This guy isn't a power user, he just needs to be on the network.

Any ideas/suggestions/what not to do?

thanks for any help

I think this sounds like an ideal situation for wireless. How far are they apart and are the line of sight?

how does building B connect to building A on the phone system? if you have a relatively clean copper pair running between the two, you can get some DSL type stuff. well, dunno if they still make it. otherwise, yeah...direction wireless. 328 ft is a joke.

Directional wireless antenna+DD-WRT on a wireless router with signal boosting and you could get some insane range(boosting isn't needed for 300ft though)

How much bandwidth do you think the link (wired, wireless, etc) would have to handle? Most 802.11B stuff has a realworld speed limit of around 3 to 5mbit with good conditions. G might be able to handle a bit more. If you need speed, you'll have to look at getting A equipment, which costs a bit more.

If digital phone cables are run, how hard would it be to run fiber optic cable from those two buildings? Got a conduit with a pull string or a way to string the fiber aerial, like between buildings using telephone poles?

Edit: yeah, for cheap, I guess a couple of Linksys WET54G wireless bridges, and a couple directional antennas, like a yagi or grid. Sharperconcepts.net, hyperlinktech.com, demarctech.com, tessco.com, fab-corp.com, etc are good places to search for the wireless antennas, cables, and pigtails.

If you have a pair of CAT3 cables get 2 SDSL modems back to back.

If not next best option is pick up some semi-directional 2.4ghz antennas (60 deg is fine) and do a point to point link with something like DD-WRT.

These should be fine: http://www.fab-corp.com/product.php?...cat=255&page=1

Just need to figure out the right cable/adapter for your router IIRC WRT-54GL are RP-TNC you can get the adapters on that same site and they have really good service.... if you're not sure you can call and ask for advice. On the WRT if you set antenna selection to auto make sure you unplug the other but its best to manually set it. If you have interference problems set it to channel 12 or above.
