going to seattle/alaska, tips?

next week i embark on an 11 day journey starting in seattle and going trough vancouver BC and alaska. i have a rebel xt (with kit lens only ). i'm looking for tips for pulling off the best quality pictures i can. going through glaciers and such i know its going to be a bit tough getting proper exposure due to the intense whiteness of it all, how to ensure my opportunities are not missed?

anyone ever been in these areas? things i should photograph? thanks!

also, i just wanted to brag about the fact that i'm going to alaska for a week

Buy a Circular Polarizer, it will make landscape pictures much more crisp and of better color & contrast. They are ~$15 at your local camera/electronics store.

Using circular polarizers with the Canon 18-55mm kit lens will be annoying because the front element rotates as it focuses. Also, you can't really find CPLs for $15...

That's funny, because I bought a $15 cpl from Best Buy which doesn't rotate as it focuses.

cpl's dont focus.

they always do rotate, though. if you bought a polarizer that doesnt then it's a linear polarizer, not a circular one.

lol

not to mention, im sorry to say but a 15 dollar polarizer will probably compromise sharpness like crazy... but budgets are always constraints...
