Cant show pics but i can advise:
Measure all your rooms and then measure all your furniture and draw it up (this is easy for me to say since im a draftsman) and make paper cut outs of all your furniture and place them how you want on your floor plan

You can go to staples or wherever and get an architectural scale and draw everything to scale (the right measurement/proportion) so youll have a good idea of how you want everything to go. I used to move my furniture when i lived at home years ago like every 6 months and did this all the time. Works real well

Oh and my room looks awful. My gf gives me a hard time about the rediculous eagle posters i have on my wall that ive had for years but havent gotten anything to replace them with...other than that; one word: tidy

Plants (and/or pictures)! They'll make a place much more friendly.

Lots of boxes.

Recently left the USAF (where I was still living in the dorms), back in with my parents back home until the fall semester starts up, MGIB kicks in, and I can figure out hours to get a job and get back on my feet.

They keep telling me to unpack some of my boxes..but I don't plan on staying that long.

Like shit, with cum socks piled around my computer, dirty laundry all over the floor, dead plants and old food when I am not dating someone.

Perfectly clean, polished, fresh new plants and fresh laundry and vacuumed when I am dating someone.

currently my room is WAY TOO BIG!! I don't have enough furniture and it looks ugly!!

I am moving to a new place the beginning of August, the bedroom, is smaller, but just perfect!! I plan on decorating with some shelving, and black and white framed pictures. The walls are a dark chocolate brown... and my bedding is purple, so it works for now. I plan on getting new bedding.. something lighter.. i have a nice hanging antique lamp, that I'll put up. and I'm going to get some bamboo window treatments!

currently.. I am trying to think of a way to make the room look nice... and to have more room... but the thing is.. I hate facing my back to the door... so I am kind of putting my desk facing the door now... but that decreases the room's spaces...
and my bed is now facing away from the window...

=/

not sure how I can arrange my room...

A space is all about how you make it.

While out of state in college for the year, my room became a sewing and storage room until I moved back in for the summer. Here was the state of the room when I got back home from Missouri.

I needed a lot of storage as I have a business to run and lots of product to store. I accomplished this by purchasing a few packs of the wire/steel cubicle shelfs. I pieced them together and they fit perfectly from top to bottom into the recession of my room as you can see. I hid my storage units from view by draping bed sheets that match my bedset over the storage containers via a rod.

I also wanted it to look nice as a lot of people like to hang out with me and my woman will not complain about being surrounded by boxes and packing tape (she was in college) so I purchased a new bedset, desk, and trashcan.

Here is how my room is now.

Total damages and supplies:

Bedset - $50 - E-bay
Storage - $100 - Target
Rod + Sheets - $30 - Walmart
Desk - $70 - Walmart
Trashcan - $20 - Walmart

For under $300 I was able to completey change my room, and have enough storage for my products. I hope this helps you out.

Got any floorplans you can post so we can toss ideas at you? Is this a single room in a shared apartment, a studio, 1bdroom?

Plants definately brighten a place up, and dont necessarily have to be hard to care for. I and others on the forums can make suggestions as to what will work in your cirumstances. Plants need differing amounts of light, so especially larger plants will affect your room's layout considerably.

Do you need to maximize efficient usage of space, or do you want to sacrifice some space to separate areas for work, play, and so on?

Consider how your windows let in sunlight. The most obvious place for your TV and computer might be a place that gets tons of glare during the hours you watch TV and spam [M]. This might either prompt you to reposition them, or you might want to invest in heavy drapery that blocks light.

If youre buying new furniture and linen, you'll ofcourse want to match colors. Using only one color or two gets boring, pick a palette where colors complement eachother. Some people advise against warm colors (red, orange, yellow...) in bedrooms, I dont see a huge problem with it. YMMV

I am back!

I got the single room in a shared apartment, 1 bedroom, I even measured it

it is 14 x 10 with door facing the window.

I probably want to maximize efficient usage of space..

currently I have a twin size bed
a desk
and 3 drawers and 2 book chests..
