Resurrection: bringing my 240Z back

This shall be the build thread for my 240Z. After getting hit 5/9, I settled with State Farm for $9822 plus tow and "loss of use".

Origins:

After settling for a cool $10k and no salvage title from the guy's insurance, I've gotta rebuild.

I'm also thinking about all the things I wouldn't have done back when it was minty fresh.

Since good condition bumpers (like my old ones) are difficult as hen's teeth to find, I'm going to shave the rear (there's a replacement panel available):

I'm also going with a carbon fiber front bumper

The busted up valance will be removed and replaced with a urethane air dam.

Last weekend's progress.
Looks like the radiator core support was bashed up a bit - the old AC condenser was wedged in there pretty good:

The top is bent a little forward and down:

Fortunately, pulling this motor took about 2 hours (instead of the nearly 12 that the 300ZX took):

It looks so sad (note the OSHA-approved footwear):

In any case, it is now in the capable hands of Loid's.

The motor is out for two reasons.
1) the head gasket has been weeping coolant for some years now (you can see, obviously, lol)
2) I have a header to put on and an exhaust to fabricate (2.5" straight back, bitches).

So, a new coat of Datsun blue on the block, a valve job, and a new head gasket, and it's down the road.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to shit on your car, it looks badass, but seriously, ten fucking grand for damage like that? I could see maybe half that if it was totalled, which it doesn't look like it was.

What am I missing here? Are Z-cars really that expensive these days?

The estimate was padded a touch. Plus parts prices are pretty ridiculous (also, because it has no "5MPH" bumper struts, the unibody is more susceptible to damage than your typical modern car).

The car, according to the insurance adjuster, is worth $15.2K. I have it insured currently for $12K (stated value). In NM, the insurance company is only allowed to total without owner's consent it if the cost to repair is greater than the worth of the vehicle less salvage value (which is $2100, according to the adjuster). I didn't consent because I don't want the hassle of a salvage title, though the extra $3k would have been nice.
