Just when I thought Mercedes and Toyota dropped the ball on brakes with the W126 S-Class/R107 SLs and the Lexus LS400, respectively. Both have woefully undersized brakes.

it's been across town at my parents' place for hte last 2-3 months I've been having too much fun with the syncro and it needs a non-clogged heater core to rock it during the winter i'll get to it and a new turbo & performance at some point in the not too distanct future

so, having read http://www.topgear.com/us/features/m...-a-70-mpg-car/

I again found motivation to crawl my ass out of my comfy mk4 leather and bring the rabbit back to life, it sat in my driveway for a bit this winter with a questionable battery, I got it replaced and the car is as happy as could be.

finally wired the glow plug relay up so get rid of the CEL it was throwing and now the only codes I have are related to the ABS missing.

I've got some parts in the mail to address where the cars lacking, namely longer gears to get it out of boost on the freeway and i'm looking at a VNT22 and some big injectors to make it go like crazy

pulled the overly complicated heater box out to replace the heater core & modify the outside vents so they blow warm/cold instead of just ambient air (silly mk1 design)

also picked up some used Race 520 bosio injectors from a fellow tdi'er in town

modified the heater box to blow heat to the outside pockets and put the new heater core in, everything is good now

picked up the longer geared mk3 tranny today, going to clean it up and toss it in with a new clutch, still deciding between the likely good for a while 300ft/lb capacity vr6 clutch & new flywheel for 325 or the better torque holding stage 2 or 3 clutch for 650 or so :\ seems like a pretty straight forward decision for now...

also got a hold of the 11mm injection pump (off an auto alh) paired with the race 520 injectors i've got fueling for ~250hp likely a bit more with a lift pump

these will all go in this weekend assuming I get a clutch soon enough, injectors are going out for calibration and balancing as is the ECU for socketing.

the turbo i'm trying to make sure will fit is beautiful, it's a vnt22, big power setup

is going to require me to redo a lot of my intercooler piping & exhaust but it should be worth it

counterflow 8v, diesels don't rev so they don't really worry a ton about airflow compared to a gas motor
