New OS HDD?

My OS HDD died, and I need to replace it. I recent backed it up once I got the first SMART error, but other than that, I'm not really sure what's wrong with it.

It's a :
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Perpendicular Recording)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148136
Purchased back in 2007, it's done well since then.

The MB it feeds:
ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131196

I don't really know too much of what's good these days. I have 3 TB in storage on other HDD's, so I don't need a huge/expensive drive. 500GB was fine as an OS HDD and a download directory before they were sorted into other drives.

Not looking to spend a bunch of money, but let me know what y'all suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Great HDD and decent speed.

The ones I've seen look a bit higher than I'd like to spend.

What about this one?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136544
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

It's a little more expensive than the one fieroloki linked, but also seems to have better stats - but yet less than the SSD's.

Thoughts?

Look at the stats on your board, you only have 3G SATA ports, so the performance would be slightly stunted. I'd save the money and go with a 3G WD.

Stunted how?

Would it be slower than a 3.0Gb/s drive?

its not like a HDD would ever even come close to saturating a 3g port anyways.

A Cav Black would be a decent choice, IMHO. I went that route with w 1TB unit, and made sure that Win7 did NOT make that 200G partition at the front of the drive, and instead put the OS there.

Unless you go SSD, you would also benefit from putting your swap file on the fastest of the other drives, again at the front of the drive, where it's fastest.

get with the times old man

I wouldn't be that worried about it either way. I don't think 3g is gonna be much of a bottleneck for anything in his price range

I'm not all that concerned about it. The computer itself is almost 3 years old anyway.

But I'm finding the 6g is cheaper than the 3g's, so if it's not a bad thing to not have them matching...

Yes, but I figured you'd like a trip down memory lane...
