Battery Replacement

So my car battery died on me today and I had to replace it. I removed the dead one out of the trunk, which is where batteries are stored in BMWs, unplugged the terminals, and put in the new one. I hooked up the terminals and the vent hose. Car started up. Everything seems to be working. I put the cap back on the positive terminal. Is there anything else I need to do? Someone suggested putting vaseline on the terminals. Is that necessary? It doesn't look like there was any type of grease on the old one. Also, where should I store the old one until I have the time to recycle it?

take the battery back to the store you got it from with the receipt most if not all stores will give you a credit...normally like $8

i've never put vaseline on the battery terminals before...but i guess it would keep them from corroding
