40 bucks for a well done (creative, clean) vector "logo" for Dad's boat

This is a bit formal for my [M] loves I know, but I made it long/boring/exact/etc for the other slightly more "don't make a shitty thread or u r like so fucked" forums...


What I'm looking for:

Short answer: I need somebody who is good with Illustrator (or bad with time to waste) to make a graphic for the Transom of my fathers boat.

Long answer: I want to find somebody with a creative/practical mind to create a vector graphic (Illustrator format please) to display the name of my Dad's new boat named MARvelous. My Mother's name is "Mar" so my father wants the name/graphic to show emphasis on that portion of the name. Hopefully you understand the point (if not, see below). The graphic should fit in a 4'5" by 11.5" space and will have a white background (see below). The letters should fill as much of this space as possible to make this as readable as possible, while still emphasizing the "MAR".

The graphic/boat name should be very prominent with the intended purpose being that it shows the name of our boat clearly while also being interesting, easy on the eye, and super awesome. If you are artistic, creative, and have seen a few boat names/graphics/transoms before, you probably know exactly what I'm looking for. If not, look around online and you'll see interesting/creative boat transom graphics all over the place. The logo might also be used to make t-shirts (I know my Dad is a nerd). It would be nice if the colors of the boat (forest green and white) somewhat matched the logo)

This is an ongoing project and I've actually asked for help on SA (and other forums) before, I've gotten some starts but nothing perfect. The example graphic below was done by somebody else pro-bone-O but I'm not sure who, and I can't find the thread... If it was you, and you feel like working on it more, PM me and we'll chat!

An IDEA of the sort of thing I'm looking for (this is actually pretty close, the main problem was the letters are not big enough, AND the logo should have some sort of nautical element/theme to it



Again, this is the right idea, pretty simple and easy to replicate, yet the MAR is obviously the main part of the word. I'll leave it up to your imagination as to how exactly the nautical theme is integrated, but one idea is to have a compass rose in place of the star.. That sort of thing. Probably best for it to be a simplistic/two color/etc compass rose, but really, it's up to you.





Payment/etc

So obviously if you are a professional graphic artists you can save yourself some time and not do this unless you don't mind wasting your time. I'm going to run the ideas/graphics I get here by my father, whichever one he likes first/best will be the one that I pay the 40 bucks too. You can post a small JPG with a watermark or whatever if you want to be safe and make sure I don't steal your image/idea. [b]I'm hoping to have this done sometime soon, even this week would be awesome[b]. I personally taught myself Illustrator enough to be able to replicate the sample image myself in about an hour (again, never used Illustrator though I've spent a LOT of time with photoshop as a newspaper photo editor). It has basically all the elements I need but isn't good enough because the Letters are to spread out, or too small, and the lines/etc are too finely detailed. I need something big and w/o too many details. I also traced a simple compass rose for the background. If anybody wants the *.ai file to work with (though I'm really looking for something similar but new) let me know. In fact, if you want to basically just fix my version and make it better/cleaner/clearer with better text placement/etc, you can just do that although I'd ask that you tell me what you think the work was worth:

I guess my point is, if you are good with Illustrator I'd ideally hope you could do the text quickly, then throw together a few different versions of the graphic with different graphic elements/placements/etc. I'd show my Dad, he'd make any comments ("could you make the character spacing a bit smaller", etc) and then I'd pay you and you'd send me the *.ai file.

I've had a few people in the past say, "I'm a graphical artist here come to my website (fancy flash, pretty sweet stuff, etc). I'll help you out and I'll give you a discount 'cause you're a good, but honest I know what I'm talking about and this is at least a 4 hour job. I normally charge 50 an hour but I'll do it for 25 an hour." Honestly, I appreciate the offer, but I'm basically broke and am paying the 40-50 (if you're awesome and quick and my Dad is happy - 50$) myself and so if you don't feel my request is reasonable, feel free to not help! I'm hoping this takes somebody 2 or 3 hours.
