In my apartment is a fire alarm that is WAY too sensitive and I need to disable it somehow. The problem is that it is hard wired so I can't just take out the battery. They redesigned my apartment but didn't move the fire alarm. With the new design the fire alarm is directly over the stove while the ceiling fan is 5 feet away. Also it is just too sensitive even when there isn't smoke, today I made chicken nuggets in the oven and I had to sit there for the last 5 minutes waving at the alarm to keep it from going off.
What is the best way to disable this piece of shit? I was thinking of taping some plastic wrap over it so no air could get in. Would that work? edit: I live in a studio, if there is a fire I will know ![]() |

I'd say talk to your landlord or something before you do ANYTHING, to make sure you're not on the fast track to getting yourself booted or whatever

Cover it with duct tape.
Or do like a guy I knew in College did. His fire alarm was almost deafening, and people in the building would set them off just to get people outside to make announcements, etc, so this guy took the cover off, and clipped the wires to the speaker/buzzer thing. That way it could still "go off", but it was silent. |
