Writing new Pit rules, faq, and links thread.

Okay. Our new resident spammer managed to remind me to do this. Go him.

I want to put together three documents:

Rules - this is obvious. I try to keep the rule count at or below 12, any more than that and people stop reading anyway.

FAQ - We've needed one of these for a while. This will supplement the rules and allow us to sort out specific cases and how the rules apply to them.

Links - This will be a list of non-biased links that deal with debating. Consider it a debate 101 class. I want to avoid sites which obviously favor one political or religious ideology, for reasons which should be apparent.

I'll try to get together a general outline of rules in a bit so that you've got something to go on there. The FAQ and links I don't really have any sort of starting point, so any ideas are welcome.

I thought the fallacy list that Dykelick Pusshaft wrote up was perfectly serviceable for inclusion. Even though I think it's an elitist snobbish way of avoiding argument, I know many here live and die by them.

Rules:

I. This is the Pit. Flames happen. No whining.

II. Threads
A. Basic thread creation rules
1. Limit yourself to three threads on the first page.
a. Exception: VALID callout threads are not counted in this number.
b. If you bump old threads in order for someone to have more than three threads, it's KC time.
2. No bumping threads more than a month old. Period.
B. Debate threads
1. Title should reflect topic.
2. Your opinion MUST be given.
3. Posting articles/links
a. If the link requires a login to read the article, either provide login or quote relevant section of article.
b. If you post a link to an audio or video source, provide a synopsis for those who cannot view/listen.
c. Do not copy/paste more than the equivalent of a printed page. We can all click a link.
C. Callout threads.
1. Title MUST be "Callout: <person's name>
2. "You suck" is not a valid callout. If you've got a good reason to call someone out, share it with the class.
3. Provide links and/or quotes relating to the callout.
4. You do not decide who wins the callout. the Pit does.
5. If the person being called out does not show, they lose the callout. As if that matters.
III. Spam: Spam is subjective. We all spam the Pit some; it helps keep things from getting too serious. However, consistent spamming of Pit threads like you're in General Mayhem will not be tolerated.

...that's all I can think of for now.

edit: grr I guess I need to use indent codes.

It was pretty good, but poorly-formatted and WAY too long. I'd rather simply include the source page in the links section.

As a rule? There's no way I can enforce that. Besides, what would we debate then?

How do we really know if something is unbiased... that's more of an assumption/opinion than fact.

Glad you saw the humor there, it wasn’t actually an attack on you. I have been so fucking busy lately it’s scary. I hurt in places I didn’t even know I had. I have been busily knocking down what seems like everything in sight. As some of you know my brother and I started a demolition company in San Diego last year, well we currently have 12 employees and 3 major jobs plus several minor ones. I may post a notice in general later that we are hiring. The problems of course are

a) You need your own transportation
b) Our shop is in Ramona
c) What we do is hard physical labor (so no fatass couch potato’s or lazy pussies need apply).

I'm not a big fan of hard physical labor. I don't mind it occasionally, but I could never do it for a living.
