Why does my vision go totally dark for ~5 secs or so when I stand up?

This has been going on for a long time but I've never bothered to ask about it:

Whenever I stand up after sitting (be it for a short period of time or long) my vision goes dark. It always goes away and will generally last for 5-10 seconds.

Is it my height and/or weight? I am 6' 4" and 185lbs if it matters...

Or is my blood pressure out of whack or something? I was thinking maybe it's too low?

Any help/information you may have about this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like blood rushing out of your head. My blood pressure used to be pretty low and I'd get dizzy spells and what you're describing every once and a while when I stood up.

If it happens all of the time or if you ever faint you should go ask a doctor about it. Low blood pressure can be unhealthy too.

Dehydration, anemia, who knows... I get it occassionally, but 5 seconds is a long time especially if it happens every time.

It happens to me too, im 6'5.

From what i hear, it happens to taller people because the blood has to travel farthen when we stand up, although i may be wrong

Happens every once and a while; though if it's VERY common you should def. see a doctor.

I'm not even 6 feet tall and it happens to me often, but at random times.

I had this happen to me a few years ago. My vision would go completely black every time i stood up from sitting or laying down. I also had headaches. After a few MRI's and various tests i found out it was Venous Sinus Thrombosis. It was causing increased intracranial pressure and that was making me lose the vision. So i would definately say go see a doctor because it may be something like i had. PM me if you have any more questions about this and good luck.

It used to happen to me before I started working out and exercising regularly. It could be different for you though.

I'm six foot seven and it happens if i stand up to fast as well. I think it is just the blood rush. I just get kinda weak kneed and light headed....dark vision. Plus since i'm tall and scrawny, my blood pressure is naturally lower. I think it's just something that goes along with being tall...
