Garbage disposal leaking... am I f*cked???

Here's pix:

I turn on the sink, and water flows down, and then leaks out of the bottom of the garbage disposal momentarily until there is no more water to leak...

Why the hell is this water coming from the bottom of the god damn thing? Has anybody had this happen before? Is there some kinda screw its coming out of or something? Meh, how do I get this fixed? Repairman FTW??? What's the cheapest way to get this fixed up nice and proper?

According to http://www.bobvila.com/HowTo_Library...sal-F2139.html

If the leakage is from underneath the garbage disposer, it is probably leaking through the flywheel seal and into the motor. Remove the garbage disposer from the drain system, disassemble the unit and replace the seal, or take the unit in for service.

But I have no clue personally what it might be.

You can take it apart to see where it's coming from but every disposal unit I've seen do that has rusted/corroded out on the inside, causing the leak. This is usually because of an improper installation where a straight drainpipe is used and water is allowed to flow back into the disposal and sit.

New food waste disposal is aorund $60 and fairly easy to put in. You'll need some plumbers putty for the sink flange as well. Don't really need any tools except maybe a screwdriver if you've got hose clamps (like for the dishwasher drain line).

$500?

A high end disposal unit costs $150 tops. Most units are easy to install as well.

Dude why the fuck didn't you replace it yourself? A one handed monkey could have done it!!!

You could have bought an awesome disposal for $80 (free shipping) from the Home Depot. And that's a 1/2hp unit that I happen to recommend... there are even cheaper 1/3hp units out there.

That plumber fucking ripped you off bigtime...

The <$100 units at Home Depot are OK, but do not feature all stainless steel chambers. My parents have a $150 model that is a step below the 1 horsepower one.

imho, the only time a plumber should come out is if you have a burst pipe underneath your foundation or a wall or something. otherwise, 99.999% of stuff around a house a idiot can do.

My parents knew next door neighbors that would have a light bulb pop or break in the socket, so the idiot neighbors would quickly call a electrician, heaven forbid killing the circuit to the area and using a potato is cheaper
