"firefox is not currently set as your default browser" EVERY TIME! (pic)

I just installed vista and firefox and I get this everytime I start up firefox. It's like it isn't setting firefox to the default browser when I am telling it to, and everytime I start firefox it is alerting me that it isn't the default. I suppose I could just uncheck the box, but I want firefox to be the default browser.

any ideas?

Firefox obviously isn't taking yes as make it my default browser, or it wouldn't pop up saying firefox is not currently set as your default browser. If it was taking it as default, this would only pop up if say IE hijacked default browser rights again.

what he's saying is still say yes to default browser being FF but uncheck the box

maybe the problem is that when it runs the check it resets the default

I still think that is just going to not have it be the default browser, and now it just won't bother me about it anymore. I was hoping for more of a place in windows to go and manually set the default browser. I guess if I can't find anything else to try I will just uncheck the box and hope for the best.

It probably doesn't have the rights to set that default in the registry. It's the same when you run Firefox as a normal limited privileges user on Windows XP. Try forcing it to run as Administrator.

Try Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Program Access and Computer Defaults > Custom and then select Mozilla Firefox for your browser. That should do it...

It needs priviledge escalation to change file or protocol associations, if you right click and "run as administrator" you should be able to do it from there. A lot of apps "fail silently" when setting associations.
