Painful "hair" grew out of the bottom of my foot? :WTF:

So I was walking the other day and I felt a tiny pain from the ball of my foot. It felt like I had a splinter or something, so I stopped and took off my shoe to see what it was. What I discovered was incredibly bizarre. I had a thick white hair, about 3.5 inches long, growing out of my foot! I yanked it out and examined it. It wasn't stiff, and it wasn't firm enough to have been something that "stuck" into my foot. It was just like a thick, straight hair.

So WTF, guys? Any clue what's wrong with me? Am I turning into a hobbit?

Maybe a hair cell in the wrong place...

Although I did find a 4+ inch long hair on the back of my arm when i was around 13 or 14 that was bent into the shape of a question mark and white as snow...

But I remember reading in maxim way back in the day about the guy who had the hair follicle in his pupil and he had to tweeze out this incredibly painful hair in the middle of his eyeball or else everytime he blinked it'd make his eye twitch really badly.

Fuck... I'd worry about pulling my eye out.

I have a single black hair on my arm. Not like the normal brown hairs, its thick and wirey like a pube

Does it hurt even though the hair is gone? If its anything more than sore, I'd see a doc.

I get the same thing. Noticed it 5-6 times, always in my left foot, never really thought much of it.

Am I going to die?

it doesn't hurt now that I plucked it. It also didn't bleed when I plucked it; it felt like yanking a hair out of my forearm or something. It's really bizarre, because I go barefoot a lot so I have thick callous on the bottoms of my feet. Could I have a whole forest of fur under there? Like it's own unique ecosystem?

I'm honestly not too worried about it, it's just incredibly bizarre. I just hope that if I sign up to be a citizen of Vault City, they don't think I'm a mutant.

I don't know anything about hair on feet, but this was a great reference

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

When you pulled the hair out, did the hair look just like as if you would have pulled one from the top of your head with the entire follicle in place? People will get some random strand of hair that will seem out of place compared to the rest of the area. Your hands and feet might be more sensitive and you noticed that as being more painful due to you not having hairy soles.

I noticed that as some people age, they start to sprout a random hair here and there. You look at pics of people back when they were young and then you see them now and like some old ladies they'll have a whisker or two sticking out of the top of their nose, jaw, or chin. This is no .

I wouldn't be worried about it. Not every time you pluck a hair from your skin you're going to bleed and I betcha it's just one random cell. Now, if the skin on the bottoms of your feet were covering a whole forest of them, you'd see the hairs all underneath as you'd be walking on ingrown hairs.

It looked like a normal hair, but white. I don't remember if I got follicle with it or not. It was growing out at an odd angle -- forward, rather than down -- as if it wanted to be considered a 6th toe. I just grabbed it and pulled, and it felt just like pulling out a hair. Maybe the pain that got my attention was it getting tugged on in my shoe?

i had the same thing happen to me years ago. what it was was a hair of my dog had somehow gotten stuck into my foot. she was a chocolate lab and had pretty coarse hair. i feel like somehow the circumstances were just right for it to have happened. i wouldn't rule something similar out as a possibility unless it grows back.
