how to accelerate quickly with manual car?

well i've had my first manual transmission car for couple weeks now...took me awhile to get use to but i would say i have the handle of it now. my question is how do you accelerate quickly or "drive hard"? the car seems to be very slow off the line and i remembered that by flooring my old slower automatic corolla it went faster which it's not suppose to

atm i am currently just usually shifting up 1 by 1 at around 3000rpm. what i've read is that is you wanna go quickly you shift at higher rpms like 6000+. i tried that yesterday but didn't really notice a diff. i revved up to 6000 shifted gears and it went down to like 4000rpm which is still above when i usually shift. should i be shifting from like 2 > 4 or 3 > 5 instead of 1 by 1? also read something about putting your car in neutral for a quick second and having your rpm drop all the way down to like 1 or 2 and then revving it up. i don't know. usually i shift into 5th at a bit less than 50mph...what speed should i be in when i shift into 5th now if i want to be accerlating and driving fast?

To launch hard, you'll have to play with an rpm which will let you accelerate hard and not lose traction. Stopped in neutral keep it at that rpm, push the clutch in, put it in first, and either feather out the clutch or dump it, gonna have to play with it.

Find out where your power starts to drop off for your car, and shift ~ there through the gears.

Like dvq said, the key to launching is having your clutch engagement point down. Feather just the right amount and you'll be set. Do not skip gears, that'll slow you down significantly. Or I guess if you're revving so high it might uhh... oh never mind.

Shift point is up to you, that's the beauty of a manual transmission. Again like dvq said you need to figure out where on your tach the most power is made, and shift there. If you're cruising at 50mph in fifth gear, you'll probably notice that mashing the gas pedal doesn't do a whole lot (unless you're in a supercar or something.) That's where you'd want to downshift to get more propulsion.

Also, as a rule, never downshift to first.

when i stopped, i hold mine at about 4k with it in 1st and the clutch depressed. then i drop the clutch to about half way, and easily let it out. in first, i go to 25mph, in 2nd i go till about45, 3rd almost 60, 4th till 75, then into 5th. it differs for every car on the mph, but if you want that take off, take your gears till they are almost red to shift.

ALSO, make quick shifts to maintain speed.

QFT. you just cant, it will rev way too high in most cases. i do this sometimes, but only when im at a place where the speed limit drops to 5mph. Keep that as a general rule

i am confused

dvq- "Stopped in neutral keep it at that rpm" - i don't understand. you mean when i am at a full stop about to launch keep it in neutral and rev it to a certain rpm and stay at that rpm until i am ready to go?

CallMeCooper- so at a full stop, you have the cluth in and rev and keep it at about 4000rpm? then you slowly let out the clutch and shift at almost red?

Learn how to heel-toe shift too, that will let you accelerate out of corners much faster than braking and rev matching seperately.

Your judging by your ass-dyno that you aren't moving faster. that dyno is not very accurate...

also, your previous automatic car may have had more power then your current manual car

one thing at a time, my friend~

heel toeing, rev matching, brakeing, shifting, steering with one hand, is a lot to handle at first

fuck up around a corner and forget to blip the throttle and he's done
