I just signed up for this too, some guy came to my campus and made a presentation. I am going to Australia this summer. The program seems amazing, you do volunteer/conservation work for 2 weeks, then you have 2 weeks of vacation time filled with a shit load of awesome stuff like skydiving, scuba diving, white water rafting, surfing and other stuff too. I don't think my University would let them speak here if they weren't legit.

These things are all scams. Get out. There's a thread on SA about someone who's girlfriend got into one of these things by going to a university meeting about it and basically got fucked every possible way.

It is a scam. My really good friend in college went (paid his own way and paid the company hosting him) to France to restore an old church. When he arrived they picked him up in an old beat up car, drove him to the middle of nowhere, and worked him to the bone for 3 weeks. He basically moved bricks and dug a ditch. He was fed three shitty meals each day. He stayed in a shitty bedroom with a Canadian, and they both decided to bail on the project. My friend said it was pretty much like the Simpson's episode where Bart goes to France for foreign exchange but ends up being a slave at a winery.

In the end my friend and his Canadian pal hitch-hiked back to civilization and chilled around Europe for 5 weeks until their flights home.

I went to Australia with them this past summer and it was fucking awesome. First 2 weeks you do volunteer work with 6-10 other peopel which usually consists of like 6-7 hrs a day planting trees or feeding animals and shit, then the rest of the day chilling with the locals and going out every night. Second 2 weeks is the "adventure tour" which consists of fun shit like rafting and rapelling etc during the day then goin out at night to get wasted and staying at random hostels, etc.

We went Cairns for scuba diving/snorkeling on the Reef, white water rafting through the rainforest there, ocean rafting and chilling at the Whitsunday Islands, hiking on Fraser Island, surfing in Byron Bay, getting stoned with hippies in Nimbin, rapelling in the Blue Mountains then going out in Sydney. Cairns in particular was crazy.

It's kinda pricey but it's fun as hell and ya meet some cool people. Definitely not a scam.
