What the hell? You can't drag music into iTunes anymore?

What the hell is going on here? I picked up a refurb shuffle from Apple's store last week and decided to upgrade my version of iTunes and make a new playlist. I'm used to using Explorer and dragging song files from my collection into a iTunes playlist.

Now, it doesn't allow that. Doing some google searches, it looks like this feature wasn't added (nor supported) in 7. Anyone have any ideas here? This is fucking retarded, I can't believe Apple would do this. I'm not importing my entire library into their Music library (which does not have any file structure at all).

you can if your shit isn't tagged right itunes just ignores it

its a reason I stopped using itunes even though everything I had was tagged as best as I could tell it still refused to add things to the library

You don't have to physically move the files from your precious folder structure. Just uncheck that box (can't remember if it's checked by default) and itunes will leave them in the existing folders.

It's not checked, I'm only dragging in files from other locations.

Why not?
It won't mess with your file structure if you do it properly
Go to Edit, then Preferences, then Advanced
Make sure the following are NOT checked: "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library"
Hit OK

What I don't like is that even if you change the itunes folder to your directory you keep your music in, it doesn't seem to autoupdate the library if you simply add stuff to the folder.

I don't like the concept of a "Library" - I have my music organized a bit - I have some on a remote machine I like in it's own playlist, and the current stuff on mine, and my live bootleg recordings - I prefer in seperate playlists. And the gapless playback / album art stuff you can't turn off.

Its working fine here, and I have the latest version. you have to make sure you are dragging it to the right spot, the playlist part of the window. The same goes with dragging music to it without using itunes, you drag it to the ipod icon, not just the window.

Works here too but for some reason it doesn't always - every now and then I notice itunes doesn't let me drag anything around and between apps, buggy

try setting a "silent" alarm. set an alarm, then flip your phone to silent mode.

in the past, your phone would set off the alarm using your silent mode settings (vibrate if it's on). NOW, new versions, make your phone ring. regardless.

so they've effectively removed my ability to use it. i can't set an alarm knowing it's going to go off when i need it to be quiet. the "silent mode" switch is a lie now.
