FINALLY figured out how to turn off smooth scrolling in Vista!!

So i really HATE smooth scrolling, and there is no way to turn it off in Vista. You know what i mean? like when you're in a folder with lots of files, and you scroll your mouse, and there's a small lag scrolling from one row of files to the next? Well.. i finally found the solution. and it was so simple too! It involves using Window's XP's TweakUI.

1. Download a copy of TweakUI for Windows XP. You can find it on Microsoft's website at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c...wertoySetup.exe
2. Use WinRar to looking inside the .exe file and extrac tweakui.exe from within.
3. Copy the extracted tweakui.exe file and save it somewhere on your system
4. Right click on the tweakui.exe file, and select properties.
5. Click on Compatibility tab and run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP. then click OK to close.
6. Now run it, and ignore the Compatibility Assistant and just hit Run
7. TweakUI should work just like in XP now. Click on Explorer, and disable "Enable Smooth Scrolling"
8. WIN!!! oh.. and most of the other tweakUI functions should work the same in Vista.

Easier solution: make sure video drivers are installed properly first.

That's the only reason I've ever found smooth scrolling to lag like that.

Or your comp is just weird

Wow talk about a long way to do something.

Just open regedit (with admin privs) and change the following key to 0 (default is 1, enabled)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\SmoothScroll

This is all TweakUI is doing anyway.

I wrote that post when I was half asleep so sorry if it reads rather rude (it does to me now). I wasn't being a smart ass just stating an easier way to do it

I don't have a key corresponding to smooth scroll, so perhaps it's not enabled on mine or something

WTF.. does no one here know what fucking Smooth Scroll is?

It's when you're browsing a folder full of files in List Mode.. and there's a slight lag when scrolling from one row to the next.

I have an idea of what you're talking about, but I've never seen it on a Vista machine. I've only seen smooth scrolling and subsequent shittiness of it on XP/2003 machines.

Also, I tried manually adding the registry key to see if I could make it do it and it wouldn't do it, so idk.
