D300 8fps trick

I donno if anyone if anyone really cares but here's a trick to get 8fps without the battery grip using 8 AA's / EN-EL4A battery.

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Kinda neat.

I always thought that the grip thing was only there to move more of them off the shelves.

I love everything about Boston, including the 2 time World Champion Patriots, The World Champion Red

Nice trick but I always like the balance a grip provides when attached

sounds like the fps limitation is all software, in order to squeeze just a few extra bucks out of our pockets for a grip.

IT seems lie a great marketing scheme, but highly unethical from my POV. This might even piss of some clients, and might switch to a more honest manufacturer.

I highly doubt this is going to cause anyone from switching. If you want a sport photographers camera you would get the D3, period.

Though it definitely does seems like its just software doing its thing... I wonder if anyone out there could hack the firmware.

I hope you're not hinting at Canon...if you are, you're so far off the mark it isn't funny.

It might not be able to "keep up" at 8 fps without the battery grip... this is a 9-frame burst (and slightly bracketed, I might add) so there should be no problems. Still, it might be able to do it without the grip (but we can't know for sure).

It's entirely possible that although it's capable of doing 8fps with the onboard battery, doing so can damage it. Overdrawing a battery can cause overheating, and damage the battery and electronics.

I did some testing with Li-Ion batteries in Airsoft guns, and we kept having them melt or explode because the draw was so high.

Just because you can talk a gadget into doing something doesn't mean its developers didn't have a good reason for placing that restriction on it in the first place.

Didn't the original Digital Rebel have a firmware hack that enabled a bunch of features? Want to talk about crippling a product through firmware?

It is 8fps. I tried it at 6fps and than set it to that, you can notice it easily.
