D300 8fps trick
I donno if anyone if anyone really cares but here's a trick to get 8fps without the battery grip using 8 AA's / EN-EL4A battery.
Kinda neat.

Interesting trick, I think I( would prefer this over regular continuous for high speed auto photography.

I always thought that the grip thing was only there to move more of them off the shelves.

Nice trick but I always like the balance a grip provides when attached

sounds like the fps limitation is all software, in order to squeeze just a few extra bucks out of our pockets for a grip.
IT seems lie a great marketing scheme, but highly unethical from my POV. This might even piss of some clients, and might switch to a more honest manufacturer. |

I highly doubt this is going to cause anyone from switching. If you want a sport photographers camera you would get the D3, period. Though it definitely does seems like its just software doing its thing... I wonder if anyone out there could hack the firmware.

I hope you're not hinting at Canon...if you are, you're so far off the mark it isn't funny. |

It might not be able to "keep up" at 8 fps without the battery grip... this is a 9-frame burst (and slightly bracketed, I might add) so there should be no problems. Still, it might be able to do it without the grip (but we can't know for sure). |

It's entirely possible that although it's capable of doing 8fps with the onboard battery, doing so can damage it. Overdrawing a battery can cause overheating, and damage the battery and electronics.
I did some testing with Li-Ion batteries in Airsoft guns, and we kept having them melt or explode because the draw was so high. Just because you can talk a gadget into doing something doesn't mean its developers didn't have a good reason for placing that restriction on it in the first place. Quote:
Didn't the original Digital Rebel have a firmware hack that enabled a bunch of features? Want to talk about crippling a product through firmware?
