2002 Dodge Ram 2500 CEL: P0455 v. When the lights... Go on.. It's just shitty...

Ok so, I'm working on this truck again and now it's time to mess with this check engine light that has been lit for a year. I pulled two codes from it a couple weeks ago:

P0442
P0455

I reset them via disconnecting the battery, and today P0455 came back on its own. Evaporative emissions leak of some sort, yay!!

Anyone know if these have any common problems related to the emission system? Some trucks have problems with the fuel filler hose and shit, do these? Forgot to mention, the gas cap is fairly new and is on tightly.

Much oblige... I'm so glad this ain't my truck, soo damn glad I don't own a damn check engine light

diesel or gas?

On my old F350 w/ 5.4L V8 I had evap system issues a hundred times, except it usually was coupled with not being able to fill the tank at all.
A few times they replaced the evap. canister, which helped, but they also had to make sure the tank vents were clear. On my truck there was one on the filler tube, and an auxiliary hose that ran into the frame somewhere. It ended up getting clogged with mud and shit.

If it's a diesel I dunno, might be the same?

It's gasoline, sorry. Neither I nor the owner of the truck would give a billionth of a dogshit if it were diesel since it wouldn't have to pass a smog test if it was. It's due for smog in a few months, so might as well get it out of the way now

Could be a hole in one of the rubber lines leading to & from the tank or Evap Canister.

I am a retarded asshat.

Replace the gas cap and don't overfill the tank. Overfilling the tank will fill the EVAP vent hose at the top of the fill tube with fuel and poison the carbon canister.

Ok, I looked all over the damn truck, but I couldn't find the EVAP canister anywhere! What the fuck? I am used to seeing them under the hood or near the tank, but it was nowhere to be found. Anyone know where this one is?

I saw them really tucked out of sight, maybe frame rail?

There's a hose at the evap canister that tends ot crack. I don't have pics but you might need to replace the hose there. That's more than likely the issue.

I'd check the grounds/cables too just to be safe with that battery code.
